Please take another crack at this, especially if you're a fiftyish person who spent the late 70's listening to heavily-produced soft jazz on FM radio.
I know you're out there, you little buggers... You're the kind of people who married your high school sweethearts and stayed home on weekends to fuck and save money for when you had kids. The instrumentals on the radio made those hours of apartment-pokey feel relaxed and unrushed, right? You remember. Of course you do.
I need to know the name of that tune because of a thing. I have another mixdown/performance on a piece of audio tape from elsewhere, but that source can't be identified either. The bass player on this version is better, fleet-er of finger and obviously enjoying a simple studio date.
The software investigators —Google Audio and Shazzam and SoundHound and Track ID— have each failed, as has my in-person social circle, that tiny part of my life with actual synaptic neurology... So now it's time for you, the anonymous heroes of the internet, to steel yourselves and be involved in something real, to stand up for something good... For something decent... For something quintessentially AMERICAN... Milquetoast Jazz.
After a lifetime of collecting and then identifying unlabeled recordings, this is the last mystery in my vaults... You need to help me with this before I get hit by a truck or die of AIDS cancer or am killed by a jealous husband.

(By the way, the second-to-last mystery collapsed over the weekend, when the artist turned out to be a band composed of Zappa's staffers. You can make fun of the 1980's-style synthesized percussion if you want to, but it's programmed by one of the best drummers of his generation, and the melody is charming, and the short piece nails a series of genuine if quaint moods. So, know that.)
(Come on, people! Be part of something larger than yourselves! Identify this and reach for the stars!)
(Hive mind! Let's do this!)

"The smell of waves crashing. The swell of sweat-drenched cardigans draped casually over the tops of superheated amplifiers...Girls, beer, mystery, and madness-all here in the high-octane sound of The Finks. So what are you waiting for? Here's the key, rev-up the turntable, and take an unforgettable "spin" with the Finks today!"
The brutes always laugh at the elegant ones...
