The Odd Death Of Reporter Michael Hastings
Very sad, disturbingly puzzling story. Worth reading.
Highland is a street you do not go fast on. 80 would be an utter outrage.

I had a friend who was under a lot of stress. One day, when he was driving down a perfectly straight highway, he swerved into a bridge abutment. Technically, it could have been an accident, but most likely it was a spontaneous decision to end the stress.
This sounds very much the same, except it was a palm tree.

I remember a dark time when bridge abutments would greet me as I drove past. Nothing pushy. Just "Hi there".

Cars make piss poor murder weapons. The author does his damndest to make it sound otherwise, but its patently ridiculous.
Why was he going so fast?
Well fuck, was he rushing to catch a flight or interview somebody?
Did he just enjoy speed?
Was his car in some way fucked up, or did he just screw up like all those other people driving cars a few years ago and hit the gas instead of the breaks?
Its shameful that he implies a soldier's general like McChrystal had a hand in his demise.
Maybe he finally snapped under pressure and decided to off himself, but who tries to kill someone THAT way?

A lot of reporters looking into stories the administration doesn't like have died the last year or so, not of natural causes. Unthinkable? So was the IRS targeting conservatives, and the government spying on US citizens, and the government using drones to kill US citizens, and....the list goes on and on.

Has suicide been ruled out? Yes, I know that it's a terrible way to kill yourself, but it has been done.

Sigh.
Actual explosions - by bombs - are flashless. The blast wave is faster than fuel can burn.
No skid marks? Antilock brakes have been out so long, it makes me think the suggestion is by a 9-11 Truther.
There's a thousand easier ways to off a reporter.
CSI Miami isn't real.

I have to agree with Radwaste.
If you want to kill somebody, a car is the worst way to do it. People can survive car accidents. Automobile suicides are also very very rare, and heavily investigated as a rule because of how uncommon they are.
People doing dumb shit though...very common.

No skid marks? Suicide. Yeah, it's a less-than-efficient way to off yourself, but it can be done. Most people don't realize it's not particularly effective.
Plus, it does leave that modicum of plausible deniability, which, especially if you're concerned about a suicide clause in your insurance policy, is important.
Still, sad.
