I Was Dumb And Lucky: Riding With Dogs In Cars
Aida's best reproving look. (Amazing how a dog can look at you like you're about to pee on the floor!)In my late doggie Lucy's last few years I didn't take her often in the car. She was an elderly little doggie and slept most of the time. But I took her in the car plenty before.
She was well-trained and would sit perfectly still in my lap -- but what an idiot I was not to consider what would happen in an accident.
Well, I've seen the error of my ways, and realize that an unrestrained dog, in an accident, can become a projectile and be horribly hurt or killed.
I have a hatchback, so a car seat that goes on the seat isn't an option because of the passenger airbag, so I got her a console car seat and a tiny harness from G.W. Little. More harnesses
here. Try to find one that's crash-tested. Few are.
More doggie car seats here.
How to keep a tiny dog entertained out of her puppy head.
An article on dog safety by a Canadian cop at G.W. Little.

Here is a link to an organization that test dog restraints for cars. It is my understanding that generally the results have not been good, although the final results are still being compiled. They do provide an FAQ for things to look for in purchasing them.

Bill, thank you so much for posting that.
Love your commenting name.
Every time I'm reminded of the rights we have -- the rights that haven't entirely been eroded -- I get a little chill about how lucky we are.
I don't drive often on the freeway. With all the people on their cellphones as they're driving, I'm a little afraid to now.
I also generally drive, in terms of my alertness to the actions of other drivers, as if everyone on the road is trying to kill me.

I'm just grateful to see she isn't likely to be called a "fur baby", which my husband just
referred to me from some other blog.
And speaking of restraints, my husband is currently informing me of a Brazilian stunt (connected to Supernanny) advertising a line of toys including a child's strait jacket, a "funny cage", and a "baby trap" high chair.
He's finding all the weird stuff today. Earlier he told me about a Russian orthodox church group called God's Will detaining some Pastaferians who had a Flying Spaghetti Monster march going on.
I love this world.
I don't know if I love the internet or hate it.

Amy, I realize this doesn't relate to car (or is that pirate?) restraints but lovely Aida's forepaws looks like she's wearing French cuffs, She needs a bowtie to complete the look.

When I first started reading this I thought the dog was having an accident in the driver's lap and was thinking...maybe not such a good driver if you are scaring the dog that bad.
I heard a good saying about this one..."Would you let toddler crawl around your car while driving just because they are small?"

You still have a picture of Lucy up on your website. Are you going to put up one of Aida?

Yes -- haven't had time yet, or rather, Gregg hasn't had a moment.

The best word I can come up with for that sweet puppy (and it is still inadequate) is magical.

Good grief, Amy. She is so photogenic! I know she's a puppy, but she has such a knowing little look in her eyes for a young lady!
I know you already got a car seat for Aida, but I just want to share this one with you because I've not seen one quite like it before. I really like how you can seat belt this pod and how it doubles as a pet bed, carrier, and car seat. There's even a video of a crash test of the bed on the link.

And I saw that one, but because I have a hatchback, I need a carseat that is a console seat, and not a seat that straps into the actual seat because of the airbag.
