But it seems that Hugo, 46, was caught having a sexting affair with a 27 year old woman. Hugo is married (4th) with two kids, and his wife apparently didn't like it.

And of course, while hey, two consenting adults, amirite, amirite, is on the one hand, on the other hand is having an affair your partner doesn't know about and you know would disapprove of, and your partner being 20 years younger than you when you've written harshly about old men preying on younger women.

On top of that is his background of having many affairs in his prior marriages, and his sleeping with students he was charged with chaperoning, and of course his attempted murder of his girlfriend. What a mensch.

So he's claimed he's mentally ill, and possibly suicidal, and dropping off the net.

He's also mentioned elsewhere that he's lucky he can't be fired from his tenured position over mental illness, prompting some suspicion his check in to a psych ward for a week was mainly a ruse to protect his job.

I long for someone to do CJ Cherryh's Merchanter series, also referred to as the "Alliance-Union" series. It has a fully mapped "future history", including alien languages, non-bipedal aliens, and contributes considerable thought to the difficulties of spatial navigation.
