This latest story of sending hateful, racist text messages to one's self is just further proof that our culture has turned from one of "Be the best you can be" into "It pays to be a victim". If you're not *actually* a victim then manufactured victimhood is a good substitute.
Thinking back, the mentality of Fake Victimhood seems to me to be the driving force behind the Occupy Movement.
Robert W., I was going to add to what you said, but I don't think I can. When did we start to make that turn from glorifying accomplishment to glorifying pathos?
Meanwhile, from the Telegraph: Was the Billy Jean King/Bobby Riggs match fixed? Does anyone even remember it?

I think it undercuts the victory to suggest that it was fixed. The only person who could possibly know for certain is dead, and right up until the day he died, he denied it.
And the fact that he bet heavily on himself to win seems to suggest that it wasn't.

Yeah, there's no way that was fixed. Riggs would never have gone along with it. He was a hustler; he did everything to win, every time he played. That's what his life was about.
