Need To Remove That Peeling Toenail Polish? Your Privacy Must Be Violated
Pharmacies are now demanding people show ID to buy nail polish remover and be limited in how many bottles they can purchase, because the stuff can be used to make meth.
A fucking piece of tubing can be used to make meth. As can a glass beaker. As can a spoon.
Aren't our civil liberties worth more than catching a few meth makers?
This is a cat and mouse game for law enforcement, and whether people are making, taking, and selling meth has little effect on the average citizen.
But we are allowing our most mundane transactions to be turned into violations of our civil liberties.
Few of us ever complain.
And once laws are made, they don't get unmade; they don't get repealed.
Are you satisfied with the direction this country is going?

I gave up on CVS a few years ago when they charged twice the amount for same drug I could get at Wal-mart.
But this is right at the edge of illegal search.

I use nail polish remover to remove paint.

Try Home Depot or Lowes. They sell larger quantities, cheaper. What meth maker is going to open all those little bottles?

CVS no longer requires photo id in "most states".

So, what do I use now if I get "super glue" on me?
At this point, this is a CVS policy not a legal requirement. Which does not mean it won't become one.

Meth, schmeth. Nail polish remover is one of the ingredients for pretty much the easiest-to-make high explosive.

when Target wanted to swipe my driver's license to buy a can of dust off... the clerk and other people in line didn't get why I didn't want Target to STORE my data. It should've been enough just to card me, if that's their policy.
So I went to wally world, bought the dust off for less, and wasn't even carded.
Just because the data is there, doesn't mean they need it..

The nation I was in love with is already gone, and every day takes it further away from it's glory.
I'm a compassionate conservative old lady, and I think it will take massive action in the streets to set it right.
IF it can be set right. The political process is too corrupt to be used to fix anything. It's just theatre, and I doubt that we citizens have a clue who really runs the country. The Left/Right thing is more misdirection in the magic show.

"I use nail polish remover to remove paint."
Also;
Sharpie/Permanent Marker
Hair Dye (I have really long hair and am sort of clumsy, therefore I use this trick all the time...)
Varnish
Superglue
Gum
Also Patrick, if you have a pair of prescription sunglasses that you would like to make into regular glasses, or scratch coating that has seen better days, you can soak them in nail polish remover and the coating comes right off.
As for the pharmacy thing, our politicians are trying to get the same policy here.
In a word...Nuh-uh!!
I'm hoping Canadian voters won't be as complacent.

On a practical note, CVS & Walgreens recent assholery has resulted in a boom for the few independent pharmacies left in our area.
Walgreens is delaying legit refills until they talk to the patient's doctor and make the Dr justify. My 80+ cancer patient pal suffered for a week over Walgreens withholding the damned Vicodin that he's been on for several years. He is required to have a drug test to get a new script every 3 months, not present for refills more than 3 days before he runs out and plays exactly by the rules. Walgreens made an already frail patient suffer pain, a slight withdrawal and his doctor jump through additional hoops.
CVS is getting people to sign away their HIPAA rights to get their 50 bucks a year discount plan.
I shop as much at non-chain stores as possible. It's a few cents more, but quality, friendly nonintrusive service more than make up for it. It is worth your time to search them out.
I went shopping yesterday. I finally told my saleslady to call me Mrs Mysterioso after I deflected her relentless tactful attempts to get my name, my phone #, sign up for the charge, the club, the sale notices... I told her with the NSA all up in my business, there was no room left for Coldwater Creek.

WTF, great information, thanks. And I do have a scratch coating that has seen better days.
When it was in high school, I used to paint lead miniature figurines for D&D. Nail polish remover atoned for a multitude of sins.
I did think of one more use for nail polish remover that I haven't tried yet. I would like to keep small water balloons filled with nail polish remover in the basket in the back of my bicycle. Then the next time I'm biking and some asshole drives up next to me and starts screaming just to startle me, I could reach back, grab a water balloon and pelt the side of his car. His finish will have a nice hole in it by the time he gets home.

HA! I'll have to remember that the next time my sister in law comes by.

To make it worse, when I went they wouldn't even accept my IDs, because I came in from out of country and they weren't US IDs. Way to encourage tourism.
