That was one crazy day 50 years ago. Facebook and Twitter completely blew up with the news and the Zapruder film was on YouTube within 3 minutes of the shooting.

I wasn't born yet.

Since I was 10 months and change at the time, I don't remember the incident. But my father told me of another president who was assassinated that month: Ngo Dinh Diem, of the Republic of South Vietnam.
He was removed from office at the behest of the CIA. The ghosts of November linger on...

My parents had only been married for about two months, so I hadn't made the scene yet, but my father has often told me the impact it had on him.

I was in Dallas, but 5-6 miles from downtown.

Progenitors dreams.
But I hope people realize that Kennedy would be considered a conservative by today's standards.
And I still don't like him for the President's Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition.

I wasn't even in school yet; but, due to hagiography I have relived "when JFK was shot" over and over for the last fifty years. It is like an annoying earworm of a disco tune.
Please, please, please, Secret Service do everything in your power to keep Obama alive. We don't need another annoying "moment in history"!

Trust me they are. They know the vice-idiot in the wings is totally unsuited to the job.

I was quite proud of my President's fitness award. I guess that the is the last year that it will be awarded.

I was in the baby carriage while my mother was shopping at a major department store. They made an announcement over the speakers and my mother went home grief-stricken. From what she told me the country stopped to mourn.
I contrasted this with my experience when Reagan was shot. I was working at a major department store (I think that it was a "sister store" of the one my mother had been in.) There were no announcements. The world didn't stop. I went right on working and had no idea until I arrived home and saw it on the news.
Perhaps the difference was the gravity of the injury, but from what I remember, at once point, they thought that Reagan's injury could have been life/threatening.

Interesting anecdote from Dr. Benjamin Spock's book: He said that he used to have a lenient attitude toward mock TV violence - but in the 1960s and later, he advised for parents to steer kids away from such violence, as well as violent games - such as imitating the Three Stooges, etc.
Quote:
"What further shocked me into reconsidering my point of view was the assassination of President Kennedy, and the fact that some schoolchildren cheered about this. (I didn't so much blame the children as I blamed the kind of parents who will say about a President they dislike, 'I'd shoot him if I got the chance!')"

I was 14 at the time. I didn't cheer, but I did wonder why everyone made such a big deal out of it. It's just another politician, I thought, not like it's anyone important.

Sitting in Chemistry class at Compton College waiting for our professor to arrive. He came in, told us, and handed out our tests to take. Real prick.

I'll never forget where I was when the teacher realized we honestly didn't care that Kennedy had been shot. 1993, high school freshman World History class.
Blew her self-centered excuse for a mind.
