According to the Weather Channel, it's 15 degrees in the NoVa this morning. Our company has offices in Southern California. Why am I not there?
Yes, I know I'm whining. Ann Arbor's currently at 12 below.

Here's something I hadn't ever really thought about: Wedding insurance, designed to protect celebrants' projected expenses against unexpected disasters, including, under certain circumstances, cold feet.
Or, you could try and design a wedding that actually cost less than the Superbowl and leave it at that.

About Ann Arbor (and cool that you live there!), University of Michigan has done something it never did when I was there -- and rarely does: cancelled classes.
Oh, I live in Northern Virginia (the NoVa). I picked out Ann Arbor for contrast; didn't you say somewhere that you went to school there? Or was that in East Lansing?

No biggsie! Ann Arbor. If you eat bread, go to Zingerman's Deli if you're there. I had nearly sexual fantasies about it for many years after I left Ann Arbor.
When so many judgements about weddings are so personal and ethereal, how would you write a contract to insure one?

Speaking of cold...I was in LA one December and a homeless man attempted to evoke sympathy from me by mentioning the cold...my response, "I'm from Rochester [NY]; I laugh at your cold."
Pete Seeger's anti-war performances from those years are revolting. He and his musical colleagues sang anti-war songs in 1939-41 because, in the Soviet Union, Stalin had decided that an alliance with the Nazis was a good idea; and the order to support Stalin had gone out to every Communist Party in the world; and Pete Seeger was, in those days, a good Communist. And so, he picked up his banjo and leaned into the microphone, and his vocal warblings and his banjo plunks were exactly what Stalin wanted to hear from Pete Seeger.
[…]
His musical style was folk-primitive, with a decided tilt toward children and the grandeurs of sing-along mass participation; and the power of that style is too powerful for anyone's good.
(Emphasis: Uncle Cridmo)
His politics were as deluded and criminal as they could be. But Mr. Berman is incorrect: His music was loathsome, not a "magnificent heritage."
The form of his 'art' foretold his wretchedness.
When in America you first say that something is 'for the children', you can then say whatever you want.

Aw shit, I have to renew next month... Good to be reminded. It's semi-annual once you pass fifty, and the CHiPs tend to be real pricks about it when you don't have a fresh sticker on your card.
Per Crid: "We thought our vows were going to be received as noble and endearing, but Aunt Gertrude thought they were gassy and trite... We're going to have to file a claim."
I suppose the insurance company would have to insist on a "don't include stupid shit in your wedding that will be embarrassing in ten years" clause in the policy. And that would include things like saying your own vows.

Ha!
I am NYC which isn't as cold as Rochester (usually) and I often joke, "My people are from a cold environment...Rochester."
This is especially relevant since my husband's family and much of our social circle have roots in the Caribbean.
Well, if we're going to talk about roasting on an open fire. . .
