Melissa Harris-Perry Eating Crow Pie Today
Romney's son and daughter-in-law adopted a baby who happens to be black. I'm not a Romney supporter, but I don't care whether the baby has tiger stripes and a tail; people who adopt kids and who are good parents to them are to be commended.
Anyone who mocks them because the baby's color doesn't match the rest of the family is an asshole beyond compare.
Also, going after a politician is fair game. Going after his kids' kids -- including one born and brought into the family only recently -- well, that's lower that low, whatever you think of the person's politics.
Well, after a firestorm on Twitter and elsewhere, Melissa Harris-Perry apologized for her segment putting up the baby for mocking in which her panelists joked about the baby being the only black person in the picture.
Weird -- this tweet of hers:
@MHarrisPerry
As black child born into large white Mormon family I feel familiarity w/ Romney family pic & never meant to suggest otherwise. #MHPapology

She seems enormously passive-aggressive.

Somehow in all the shit about the Phil Robertson (Duck Dynasty) they seemed to overlook that one of his sons adopted a biracial child.
I agree with you Amy. Taking on the responsibility of parenting a child is a gift to the child. But it is also a gift to the new parents.

Absolutely. My dear friend David and his wife adopted a Korean boy. Their lives are wildly more joyful for it. Oh, and he's a New Yawk Jew and she's Jewish, too. No, they don't match, but they sure as hell are a family. And a happy one at that.

That was no apology. That was blame. "It was your fault for misconstruing what I said." (If you believe she was misconstrued.)
Patrick at January 1, 2014 11:04 AM
Thanks, Patrick, for pointing that out. I agree. The tone sounded more like a passive-aggressive rebuke than an apology.

People like that are never sorry for being rude, nasty asshats. They're just sorry you're too stupid to see things from their point of view.

If that were her only tweet it would sound passive-aggressive, but it came after several tweets where she said she apologized unreservedly. (Not that I have a dog in this fight but her complete statement was unequivocal.)

I love people who adopt. Not that I believe in heaven, but if I did and if I went there, I'd give them cuts in front of me.

Because of genetics both my parents could pass for white. I couldn't and neither could my brother.
So fuck anyone who still makes a big deal out of someone having a child that doesn't racially match them.

"Well, after a firestorm on Twitter and elsewhere, Melissa Harris-Perry apologized..."
Translation: The PR flack who maintains her Twitter account wrote an apologia and posted it. MHP herself was likely not aware it had been posted until after the fact.

Huh? She was "born" into a large white Mormon family?
Either she was adopted into a large white Mormon family - or our understanding of genetics is seriously flawed.

What a jerk.
Definitely grounds for the network to reconsider her employment, given the number of people who would love to have her job!
If you like that you're gonna love this quote:
"Hu Jintao was just going, "Ching cha. Ching chang cho chow. Cha Chow. Ching Cho. Chi ba ba ba. Kwo kwa kwa kee. Cha ga ga. Ching chee chay. Ching zha bo ba. Chang cha. Chang cho chi che. Cha dee. Ooooh chee bada ba. Jee jee cho ba." Nobody was translating, but that's the closest I can get."
