Starbellied Sneetches Security: Stupid New Form Of Pretend Security For TSA, Etc., To Be Instituted By End Of 2014
Via WHNT.com, Huntsville, Alabama, if you want to fly anywhere or get into "federally secured buildings," you'll need a new driver's license:
By the end of 2014, federal security authorities like the TSA at airports or guards at federally secured buildings will look for a new type of identification. It's a driver's license called the STAR ID and most of you are going to need one.STAR stands for "Secure, Trusted, And Reliable." According to the Alabama Department of Public Safety's web site, it's part of a nationwide effort to improve the integrity and security of state-issued driver licenses and identification cards, which, in turn, will help fight terrorism and reduce fraud. It came as a result of Congress passing the REAL-ID Act of 2005.
To fly in the domestic U.S. you must have either a STAR ID or a government-issued passport as of December 1, 2014. This is for anyone born after December 1, 1964. People born before that date will have until December 1, 2017 to secure their new STAR I.D.
How do you get a STAR ID? Even though it will replace your driver's license once you get one, it's not as simple as renewing it at your county courthouse. It's a brand new license, so you'll have to visit the driver's license office in your county.
Welcome to pain-in-the-assville and bureaucratic Kafkaland for some, for sure.
You'll need to bring (to "verify" your identity and date of birth):
-Valid, unexpired U.S. passport
-Original or certified copy of birth certificate
-Consular Report of Birth Abroad
-Certificate of Naturalization issued by Department of Homeland Security
-Certificate of Citizenship issued by DHS
But that's not all. You'll have to verify your Social Security number and other info. More here.

What will happen in States that issue dr7ver's licenses to "undocumented immigrants?" Will those lack the star, or will it be claimed that would be "illegal profiling based on country of origin?" And not everyone born in the US has a birth certificate - will PotUS Obama get a star?

All I can think is Germany or the Soviet Union and "Show me your papers." being said with a heavy accent.

"By the end of 2014"?
1. About 60% of the states currently don't have compliant licenses.
A number of these states don't want to issue a national-ID card and
have passed laws specifically prohibiting compliant licenses.
2. The compliance deadline has repeatedly been extended since the
2005 passage of the REAL ID act. Homeland Security dept. says that
the prohibition for boarding aircraft "will not occur sooner than 2016."

Oh, it gets WAY better.
I have a "real ID" card, because of my employment at a federal site.
To get it I had to produce a Social Security card and a utility bill, and/or my State-issued drivers license.
Please note that all of these are easily faked.
This replaced my previous site-issued security badge, which was obtained after Federal agents interviewed everyone I knew, my financial and arrest records were examined, and I was fingerprinted.
I was fingerprinted again, apparently because my previous set was no longer useful.
Then, just to be sure that the stupidity was cemented in place, I was told that this "universal" ID card could not in fact be used at any other federal facility. Even though it says so in assorted literature.
So, the new ID cards are touted as being more difficult to counterfeit – but the process used to obtain them allows identity fraud in the issue process.
Strangely, we still have hundreds of employees at SRS who have the old-style badges. Apparently someone had the good sense to interrupt the "real ID" process for them.

All I can think is Germany or the Soviet Union and "Show me your papers." being said with a heavy accent.
I've thought that ever since the inception of the TSA.
And I used to fake a number of documents. I was a young forger. When my school took a trip to Ann Arbor and you couldn't go around freely without a letter from your parents, I wrote them for a lot of people on the bus. I changed my driver's license so I could get into a club (only a few times because I didn't really care about drinking and was just curious about clubs). And I changed my UPI press pass from when I was an intern at UPI at the White House, State Dept, and legislative branches so I would have "important ID." Just for starters. And this was before you could print up just about anything on a computer. A fake DWP bill? No probski!

And Rad points out a great point. Once you successfully get a fake ID, you're in.

Not to worry, Attorney General Eric Holder has decreed that requiring photo to vote is discrimination, so I am confident he will file suit against the TSA to end its discriminatory practices.

I have one of these "secure" licenses from GA. The website listed all these specific things for proof of address, but then when I got there the $12/hr clerks said I just need any peice of mail with my name on it. It was a real pain, especially since we had just moved.

"will PotUS Obama get a star?"
He is not the first President who, if he had not been elected, could not obtain permission to visit the engine room of a US submarine.
That's a shame the American public willfully ignores - on those rare occasions it is pointed out.
