From yesterday's Maggie's Farm, a lament over the decline of the professoriate. It's not so much their politics, apparently, but rather their boringness.

I don't know why, but that book struck a chord with me - maybe its because I grew up in the country which turned into the far suburbs?
Good for that woman in that the local government didn't abuse eminent domain to take her house to sell to the developers.

Is college an investment? Maybe, if it has a positive return. Somebody at Bloomberg went to the trouble of estimating ROI.
Tuition.IO summarizes the best ROI here, and the worst ROI here.

mpetrie98, unfortunately there is no hell for Fred Phelps to go to, but from what I've read about the man he spent his entire life in a hell of his own making.
I wonder if his family will finally break free now that he's croaked before a vengeful Jesus could smite the nonbelievers?

I wasn't sure, at this time, if I should wait until tomorrow to post this, but "He's dead, Jim."

As a parent with a child under 12 months who can't get vaccinated yet and it be effective...the anti-vaxers are pissing me off. Outbreak in our neighborhood. And has my pediatrician friend explained measles has "wicked airborne potential" (I assume that is a technical term). So we will limit her exposure to strangers as much as possible until she can get the shot.
I initially struggled with the Heb-B vax for a child as I perceived the disease to be sexually transmitted or IV drug related and thought I had a few years to worry about that. Our pediatrician explained that children catch hep-b and no one knows the cause and it is a sucky-ass disease. So she got her hep-b shots.

In Kansas, if you complain about the police, you can be charged with a felony.

Welcome back, measles. Did you bring your friend polio to the party?

Coming soon to a college near you: "Food Studies," which may or may not have much to with baklava or liver and onions.

Man, the vax-loonies sure showed up in the comments to that article, didn't they? And they brought all their friends, too.

I still won't get the flu shot.
