17 Days To Good Manners! Today: Group Facebook Messages Do Send A Message -- Basically, That You're Too Lazy To Be Considerate
Every time somebody replies to one of these Facebook mass messages, everybody in that group is included in whatever incisive bit of wit they've added -- such as, "LOL, Dood!"
This is one of the tech topics I cover in my science-based, funny manners advice book, "Good Manners For Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck,", which will be out on June 3 via the fabulous St. Martin's Press.
Here's a bit from the book on the subject of Facebook mass-messaging:
• Mass-messaging: Don't eat people's time because it's easier for you to send an invite to your entire friends list.Refrain from mass-messaging an invitation to everyone on your friends list unless you will be giving away bars of gold bullion or all of your invitees are actual real-life friends who live close enough to come. I typically won't drive thirteen miles to Hollywood for a party; I'm not taking three planes and a shuttle bus to get to "Karaoke Nite!!!" in Tampa.
Please consider pre-ordering. The book is discounted from the $14.99 retail price to only $9.48 at Amazon and $9.67 at Barnes & Noble.
And for all you book-listeners out there, there's also an audio book version, also available for pre-order. It's just $10.76 at Amazon and just $10.11 at Barnes & Noble.
FYI, Pre-orders help give the book "heat." (Also, every time you pre-order a copy, a kitten lives and my electricity stays on for another 20 minutes!)
I worked very hard on this book and I hope you all like it and find it helpful and insightful -- and get some laughs.

Well, I just pre-ordered. It helps that you added a link and asked for the sale. I'm looking forward to reading your book. Although I seldom post, I'm a regular reader. You have a great blog and an interesting mix of regular posters. I love this place! Best wishes on your new book.

Amy, wonderful Amy, may I ask a favor? Now that the book is DONE and you (presumably) have a few moments to breathe, could you and/or Gregg update your "Amy's Mall" page so that it is clear *exactly* which referral link (or links) we should use in order for you to get a small cut of our Amazon.com purchases? I try to go through you as the referral for most of my Amazon.com buying, but I'm never sure if I'm using the correct link. Sorry, I'm sure you're still frantically busy despite the book being DONE, but thought you might not mind a gentle suggestion aimed at making it easier for those of us who want to throw a few extra coins your way to achieve our goal. :)

Also, an actual link: Ask a Manager has become my go-to site for everything from job-hunting advice (not for me -- I love my job -- but for others) to tips about being a good supervisor. Anyone looking for a job, or who has a job but has questions about that job, or who has a job a a supervisor/manager and has questions about that, etc. etc., will likely find it helpful. Plus, the woman who runs the site has red hair and a name starting with "A."

For now, here's one: Amy's Amazon.
And not only do I not mind but I'm really grateful, both that you said something and that you thought of this.
The truth is, I've been working on an op-ed and trying to figure out media outlets. Just finished the op-ed today, after much, well...well, it's hard to condense an 80,000-word book into 700 or so words!
