On that article posted by Gog_Magog_Carpet_Reclaimers, there are quotes by the passenger who was in the car with the driver. He was screaming to be let out, saying he was thinking about how he had a 2-year-old kid and didn't want to die. He's had to go through therapy due to the incident. He's angry that the driver is on work release, saying that he has been forgotten by the justice system.

I'm thinking, "Dude, you made the bad choice in the first place. You were drinking and you chose to get in the car with a stranger who was also drinking. Why weren't you thinking about your kid then? Be thankful you didn't die and that nightmares are all you have to deal with."
