"Do I Look Muslim In This Pup Tent?" -- How People In Muslim Majority Countries Want Women To Dress In Public
In case you missed it, Jacob Poushter posted at Pew Research about a survey of people in Muslim majority countries asking how much a woman must be disappeared by her clothing to be considered acceptably dressed in public. Saudi Arabians were the most restrictive, with 11 percent wanting to not even see her eyes, and 63 percent wanting the woman covered head to toe, save for a slit for her eyes.

Oddly, they do not present any data on exactly who they surveyed. Want to bet that - at least in the most conservative societies - they only asked the men what they thought?
At the very least, they should present data by gender: what the men said, what the women said, and what the average result was.
There is a further aspect to this: In the Middle East, the men wear white robes, while the women wear black burkas. The Middle East is just a little bit hot, with just a little bit of sunshine. The black costumes for women are yet another way of ensuring that they spend as little time as possible outside the home.

This reminds me of something from yesterday that I found a bit hard to wrap my head around. I went into one of the nicer furniture stores since they were advertising a big clearance sale. A sales lady came up to and asked if I needed assistance -- she had on the head gear such that only her face could be seen but then the rest of clothes were quite form fitting...not painted on, but enough one could easily tell that she had a very nice figure -- more night clubby than sale associate at stuff furniture store. And she had perfectly done make up - so it was like look at me I am so hot...but don't see my hair, ears or neck.

ARG - I do wonder if the women aren't brainwashed about the overpowering sexual powers they must wield though, and may have even answered similarly along with the men. Because the culture puts the responsibility on the women alone to conduct/dress themselves correctly to avoid being jumped by a man. No responsibility on the man to have any restraint whatsoever.

I lived in Israel for a long time. In and around Jerusalem, the prevailing fashion for Arab Muslim women was fitted suits, high heels, and hijab style head-scarf. Full sleeves and skirts well past the knees or slacks, but form-fitting nonetheless. The hareidi women (Jewish ultra-orthodox) often looked more "Media Muslim" than they did -- though that wasn't universally the case. I also visited Jordan and Egypt. And while they are Muslim majority countries, not all Muslims are traditionalist hard-liners. They run the gamut for culturally Muslim in a disinterested way to Mad Mullah. You'll see heel-clicking, bangle-clacking, gum-smacking, decked-to-the-nines gaudy freichahs in *some* of the big Arab cities, too. They don't just populate Tel Aviv and the Jersey Shore. Its a human type that transcends culture.

Interesting article that says the Islamic Reformation has already happened:
