To wit: Everyone's been raving about this Marion Barry piece, but it doesn't make me like him any better.
Question for the floor: Is there any American politician you admire? (Aung San Suu Kyi doesn't count; she's not ours.)
Is it possible, or sane, to admire people who're paid with your money to spend more of your money and divert your resources?
Could anything about that be admirable, let alone heroic?

I assume you mean a current one. No, I can't come up with a name. There are some that I think are better than others, but none extend to admiration.
