Our Response To Domestic Violence? "Yeah, Whatever..." -- If The Victim Is A Man
Natasha Devon writes in the Telegraph/UK that model, actress, and TV host Kelly Brook has an autobiography out -- in which she admits to physically assaulting two of her boyfriends.
The response? Three tumbleweed blew down the street in the UK. If that.
As Devon writes:
According to the charity Mankind Initiative, which issued a statement outlining disappointment at the lack of public backlash against Ms Brook, one in six men will experience domestic violence during their lifetime. It's already incredibly difficult for men to admit they have been abused by their partners, without the media and celebrities further reinforcing the idea that women beating up men is no big deal and actually rather funny....In everyday rhetoric, female-on-male abuse is not only tolerated but sometimes actively celebrated. "She wears the trousers in their house" and "you've got him well trained" are both phrases I've heard uttered with admiration and awe by women who would never entertain the notion of someone saying such a thing if the gender roles were reversed.

I had an uncle with an ex-wife that had mental problems. A few times she broke into his house and assaulted him. When he called the cop they arrested him and left her in his house. I don't remember if it was the 4th or 5th time he told the cops if they arrested him for being assaulted by a trespasser again he was suing the police force.
Stories like this and the one above are why I laugh when people call America a patriarchy. You have to be willfully ignorant to think men are in charge in America.

Why is there no outcry about things like this? Why is it Ok for men to be slapped and punched?

Often if a woman hits a man many folks will think "he must have done something to deserve it."
Just imagine how awful that sounds if the genders were reversed: "yea, she must have done something to deserve it."

50 years ago, that's what they said when a man hit a woman.

I even saw that in a case here where a woman shot and killed her soon-to-be-ex in cold blood. He was sitting at a table, writing a check to her to cover her expenses for the divorce, and she sneaked up behind him, put a gun to the back of his head, and pulled the trigger. People who knew them were properly shocked, but I saw comments from a number of woman and some man who weren't as close to the case, who said exactly the above. Yeah, not being sufficiently considerate totally justifies cold-blooded murder.
(P.S.: the woman who did it is out of prison. She served about three years.)

About 20 years ago more than 90% of those arrested for domestic violence in this state were men. Since arrests were made in only about half of the domestic violence calls cops responded to, many women's rights advocates believed the cops, using their discretion, were letting way too many men get away with domestic violence. So a mandatory arrest law was passed requiring cops to make an arrest at every call. A couple of years later, when I worked in health services at the jail, about half of those arrested for domestic violence were women. Turns out it wasn't men who the cops were letting get away with it.
