Movie Worth Watching
Hilarious comedic martial arts movie, directed, co-written, and co-produced by Stephen Chow, who's also the lead: Kung Fu Hustle.
Trailer doesn't do it justice.
My favorite character is the landlady -- watch for her (curlers and cigarette perpetually hanging out of her mouth).

If you're ever in the mood for incredibly fucked up while simultaneously depressing thrillers I recommend Korean cinema.
It is interesting that in recent times Koreans have surpassed the Japanese and Chinese in Asian pop culture. I wonder how long that will last.

Love the fact that this trailer is playing "Ballroom Blitz" as part of the soundtrack!

I particularly like action movies that are funny.
Gregg considers it one of my downsides that I love the "Die Hard" franchise and will see almost anything with Bruce Willis in it where he isn't playing against his usual type.

I freaking love this movie. And yes, the landlady is the best character in the whole thing.
Now I need to go watch this again. :D

But I thought the Lions Roar was a Myth.....
They have made other ones, eg "Shaolin Soccer" but it's not as good.

In current watching, we've been on Ray Donovan. (That's Season 1 -- we're on the next season now.)
Great writing, casting, acting (especially from Jon Voight), and directing, and this season's even better than the first. Really unexpected stuff. Just watched two last night. (Gregg doesn't usually want to do that, but I begged in a really cute way, plus it's a holiday.)

I was just trying to explain the joy that is this movie to my sister-in-law on Christmas. It really has to be seen, not explained.

"Any specific recommendations, PPen?"
I will pinch hit.
The best one is "Old Boy (drama)". Please do not watch American remake by Spike Lee but watch the Korean original with sub title. The final violent scene at the top of the hotel will actually make you cry out of total "fucked up" emptiness for the protagonist and also for his enemy as well.
I also recommend "Chaser (drama)" and "Memories of Murder (half comedy)".

I think you meant this scene from Old Boy.

Another gem in this genre is 2005 movie Blood Rain

Try Volcano High, Korean Original not American Remake.

Chang pretty much read my mind.
Though to add to the list there is Mother and another one called No Mercy.
Koreans make really good cheezy romcoms or horrendously depressing psychological thrillers/dramas.

Have you watched Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky. It is a classic of cheesy martial arts. Especially the part where Riki realizes the only thing keeping him imprisoned is himself, literally.
