All The Fragile Ladies
Modern feminism is looking more and more like neo-Victorianism.
Ashe Schow writes at the Wash Ex about bans on parties and drinking:
First, sorority women at the University of Virginia were banned from attending parties with boys this weekend by their own National Panhellenic Conference. The reason for the ban, which carries undisclosed sanctions if broken, was "safety concerns," due to sexual assault allegations in the past. The message is clear: Keep women from partying and they won't be sexually assaulted.
...As if the U.Va. ban wasn't bad enough (it was based off of a discredited rape allegation in Rolling Stone, after all), Dartmouth has decided to ban hard liquor on campus -- in part to cut down on sexual assaults.
We seem to be going back in time; telling women where they can go, whom they can associate with -- even what they can drink. At least it's all in the name of protecting us poor, fragile ladies, am I right?
Yes, ladies, you can do anything a man can do, as long as you don't go out alone after dark or drink beer anywhere but at Hello Kitty sleepover parties with your sorority sisters.

Are they becoming Baptist?

I'd recommend that college women not be allowed out without wearing a veil and being escorted by a male relative at all times.
In fact, they probably shouldn't be allowed to drive, own a cell phone, or vote. Suddenly, the value of sharia law becomes clear.

Dude they are finally allowed to vote this year...in city elections only.

@ IRA Darth: "by their own National Panhellenic Conference" tells me that it's not the patriarchy/sharia types promoting this new Victorianism. 100 years of empowering women and what do they do when they get it? Same as the men.

dumb kids... sistas shoulda invited the boys over to their place, and had the party right there.
But that would have required some change in thinking, rather than kowtowing to the national group. They are a rigid hierarchy, doncha know. Prolly didn't even occur to them.

Wait a minute.. isn't this blaming the victim type thinking?
We've been told time and time again that giving sensible advice is, so clearly this is too.

Dartmouth-and the sorority governing body-are private entities so far as I know, and can make the rules they see fit. Don't like them, leave. Frankly, having been quite the party girl in school, I'd say avoiding frat parties is one of the smartest things a girl can possibly do. Man-children (who can occur at any age) can get violently immature in groups. Not to mention groups tend to follow the lowest common denominator.
