@ Jerry: Seemed like a re-phrasing of a common piece of advice. Humans (like most animals) let their carnal desires override any thoughts of whether something is good for them.
For example, maybe just maybe, that first smoke that produces a coughing fit, tastes awful, and generally is not productive to your immediate survival, just maybe, your body is telling you something.
(And no I'm not against smoking as long as I am not forced to be w/you in a confined space. Asthma I realize that what you do is your business as long as it does not affect my immediate survival.)
