A few days ago, I posted a link of a Sovereign Citizen (someone who believes that he can simply declare himself a non-citizen of the U.S. so that most laws don't apply to him) getting tased for trying to enter a courtroom with a camera.
Unsurprisingly, this loser who lives with his mother and is suing the government for 15 million also tried to take over a home through "adverse possession," which is explained in this three-minute newsclip.
Adverse possession comes from doctrine of laches, i.e. the failure to assert a legal right can result in its equitable loss.
Basically, adverse possession states that if you move into an abandoned home and remain there for a specified period of time (varies by state but generally between eight and twenty years), you can become the owner. Couple of rules about this: 1) your occupation of the home must appear to exclude the property's natural owner; and 2) your occupation must be "open, notorious and hostile." In other words, you have to open about your occupation of the home; you can't hide there for twenty years while no one knows you're there.
If the owner even asserts his rights during your occupation, the timer stops running.
The problem with these adverse possessors is that those darn banks keep asserting their ownership of abandoned, forclosed homes, forcing the adverse possessors off the property.

Jerry, I said it was wrong in the comment under the title. I'm grew up with what Gregg calls "Crossover" (Passover), not Easter, and as I was writing this, "Gobble, Gobble" just came to me, so I went with it.
It reminds me of what the multiplex a few miles from me was like until they shut it down back in the late 90s. "Riots" every Friday and Saturday night.
As they say: "we can't just have anything nice! somebody has to ruin it."

Sorry, I agree with the termination. You sex life, gay or straight, is not the business of your students.
