Digging Around In My Archives: Who Really Hates Femalekind?
One of my column openings from way back when:
While militant feminists smell a global conspiracy against womankind whenever some poor schlub compliments a female coworker on her new hairdo, they've long ignored some of the most virulent (and obvious) women-haters in the world: makers of ladies' clingy knitwear. To be fair, there are a number of women over the age of 15 who can pull off a form-fitting knit dress. One is Kate Moss. The other is Kate Moss.

She's not just the face of heroin chic and anorexia. She's still tormenting us with knit dresses. You were right to call out her enablers.

Hah...thank you. I at least have always been very good friends with three-way mirrors in stores, or the two-way mirror of the mirror in my purse and the mirror in stores, and have probably saved myself from producing eyesores this way.
PS Slinky dresses, which I wear, and knit slinky dresses are two different things.

When I see a woman attempting to get away with wearing a dress that really doesn't work on her, I wonder whom to blame the most: (1) the dress seller, (2) the PC crowd, who seem to have convinced her that she doesn't really look awful, it's only nasty, evil men who think she does; or (3) herself, for being taken in by both (1) and (2). All three seem to have some responsibility, but it's your call which is the easiest target.

Kate Moss will probably go down as the greatest supermodel in history.

Who Really Hates Femalekind?
Oh, I do. Ask Rachel Flax, Momof4, and Freebie. They'll tell you I hate women.

As far as I'm concerned, MOST dresses are not attractive, whether a certain woman is wearing them or whether they're on a mannequin.
When it comes to everyday clothes, I'll wear anything so long as it doesn't stand out - no clothes with writing or logos, for one, and, typically, no designs, since they can become dated.
But when it comes to decorative clothing, I'm really fussy, which is why I've never enjoyed clothes shopping as an adult - I despair of finding ANYTHING I like, other than some black or white clothes with smallish floral designs. I went to Neiman Marcus in 2013 for the first time in years to see if they still had truly attractive clothes. They didn't. Everything looked pretty boring from a distance, aside from the expensive MATERIALS used. I'd probably have had better luck finding stylish, elegant clothes at my local vintage store. Even Goodwill can bring great rewards if you're just patient and search long enough.
