Note that no gov't actually helped w/o his initiative. Only money in the right hands and the willingness to do what was needed (fabricate gov't documents if necessary).
I could say some really negative things about our current leaders, the NAACP, and others but ...

We need more of him, but alas, too few appear. I do believe it is much more than taking risks. In his core he had a value of life and an opinion of right and wrong. He acted accordingly. Tough thing to do.
Begin with an unproven assumption: "Because the harm of erroneously presuming willingness in such cases vastly outweighs the harm of erroneously presuming unwillingness," get a Kafkaesque conclusion.
Not only is that assumption unproven, it becomes blatantly false under the proposed laws.
