I'm so sorry that gay marriage violates the sanctity of her fourth marriage. (Yes, she's on husband #4.)

The clerk needs to resign. If you can't do something because of your religious beliefs, fine. It it's part of your job, you need to get a new job. End of discussion.

Her job requires her to do something she disagrees with.
She should either quit or suck it up and do her job.
Doing her job will not affect her salvation and she knows it (unless she is an adult w/less than normal cognitive abilities which is possible and quite likely).

Vox Day has a Kindle book entitled SJWs Always Lie: Taking Down the Thought Police
Because the SJW agenda of diversity, tolerance, inclusiveness, and equality flies in the face of both science and observable reality, SJWs relentlessly work to prevent normal people from thinking or speaking in any manner that will violate their ever-mutating Narrative. They police science, philosophy, technology, and even history in order to maintain the pretense that their agenda remains inevitable in a modern world that contradicts it on a daily basis.

And a San Francisco restaurant has eliminated wait staff and cashiers and gone to an iPad ordering system.
But at least one patron is worried:
Riley Thomas, a San Francisco resident who works near Eatsa, was one of the few patrons who questioned the concept at a time when more and more families are struggling to survive in the city. “I like the food and love the price,” he said. “Still, it worries me that people will begin to think that this is how all restaurants should be run and it could really hurt jobs that are needed right now.”
Let me guess: Mr. Thomas was instrumental in the Buggy Whip Makers of America's opposition to the automobile? Personally, I'd be more worried about the possibility of identity theft if their wireless network and iPadium are not properly secured.

Patrick; as I've read more stories about this clerk I realized that she is a recent "convert" and we all know converts can be some of the most arrogant fanatics.
A few things jump out at me about her.
First, she clearly doesn't realize that the marriage licenses that she gives out are civil licenses. In my opinion, not much different from a business license, or a building permit, or a dog license. She is NOT giving out a religious marriage license. Given her new-found religion, and as most fanatics do, she has confused the two.
Second, again as with most fanatics, she clearly doesn't understand what her new religion is about. As with most fanatics she is selectively picking what she wants to believe and ignore other aspects. (I'll bet she didn't give up pork rinds! the treif-eating bitch!)
I'll get all religiously preachy here, sorry all. But, in Christianity, the belief is that you must "render to Caesar that which is Caesar's; and render to God what is God's." In other words, follow civil laws.
Third, she is violating two of the ten commandments. First violation is by not giving out a marriage license to anyone she is, in essence, stealing their civil rights. This is violating the commandment of "thou shalt not steal." The second commandment she is violating (and it is a commandment that most Christians and Jews don't, in my opinion, fully understand) is the commandment "Thou shalt not use the Lord's name in vain." This commandment is often misunderstood as "don't swear" as in saying something like "Oh God!" or "Jesus H. Christ!" if you hit your thumb with a hammer. No, what this commandment means is don't do something wrong in God's name. For example, murdering in God's name (sort of what ISIS and other fanatics in the Middle East are doing now). This is exactly what she is doing by claiming that it is her religion forbidding her to give out marriage licenses. She is stealing in God's name!
Fourth, she is casting judgment. Again this is against Christianity (and she is by no means alone in committing that sin - I'm doing it right now, ha!) - "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Clearly, four marriages, a youth spent drinking, she isn't without sin.
Lastly, she is committing one of the seven deadly sins - greed. Despite what she is saying about her religious beliefs, I believe that all this has more to do with her not wanting to give up an $80,000 per year job (I'll bet that is a rather hefty chuck of change in rural KY). She is simply being greedy.
I'd like to do to her what this black cat did to the orange cat:
Her lawyer: Kim Davis is being treated as a criminal because she cannot violate her conscience. NO. Kim Davis is being treated as anyone who disobeys a court order.
Mike Huckabee:
Her in jail removes all doubts about the criminalization of Christianity in this country. HELL NO. She is in jail because she refused to follow a LEGAL court order. Her "Christianity" is in no way being "criminalized" here. Pay attention.

The honorable and proper thing for her to have done would have been to resign because she could at that point no longer in good conscience carry out the duties of the office to which she had been elected.
This was not about her Christianity, it was about the office of the County Clerk. So no, Mike Huckabee, this isn't about criminalizing Christianity.
I wonder, are all the people saying Davis deserved to go to jail for not obeying the law also going to suggest that Gavin Newsome, the former San Francisco mayor who authorized the city to begin marrying gay couples in defiance of what was then California law, going to acknowledge that he violated the law and suggest that he should have been punished? Or does that streak of righteousness only apply when the person isn't politically correct?

"Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said on Thursday that Ms. Davis' jailing was an act of “judicial tyranny,” and in a statement he called on “every Believer, every Constitutionalist, every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis.”
Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky told CNN, “I think it’s absurd to put someone in jail for exercising their religious liberty.”
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas said on Twitter that he would go to Kentucky on Tuesday to support Ms. Davis. “We must end the criminalization of Christianity!” he wrote.
Clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky Kim Davis, despite having exhausted all her appeals, has defied a court order mandating that she resume issuing marriage licenses. The judge has ordered her to appear on Thursday to show cause as to why she should not be held in contempt of court.

No, you don't have to break the law to get your face slammed to the pavement by a cop.

Politicians calling the contempt/jailing of Kim Davis wrong need to be removed from serious consideration to hold any office.
How can you hold a higher office if you don't understand the lower echelons of government?
