Hair Color For Idiots!
I just saw a dumb hair color ad proclaiming their brand to be "gluten-free."
Is anyone really getting their daily carbs from slurping Miss Clairol?

This is apparently for people with Celiac Disease or have a gluten intolerance.

Steve:
Celiac disease means ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the
small intestine. The key word is "ingestion".
Thus, only drinking the hair coloring would matter in terms of
Celiac disease. I would suggest that if you intend to drink that
stuff, sensitivity to gluten would be a minor part of the bad
effects.
It's not just this hair coloring that seems to assume their
customers are about to drink it. See also the no-gluten claims for
Herbal Choice Mari's skin care products, deodorant, and shampoo.

If this was 16 years ago they'd probably claim it was Y2K compliant.

While this seems perfect for a Barnum Award, people are constantly faced with buzzwords and concepts designed to elicit responses in the moment, but that often represent issues only completely understood by experts, or people with time to distinguish the truth from BS. Examples: Global Warming, GMOs, "Natural", "Organic". It's normal to be taken in.
Google "Food Babe" or "Dr. Oz" for preying on Ignorance.

We passed a car wash last month whose signage proclaimed it "Gluten Free!!". At least that one was a joke.

I passed a billboard in Louisville, KY advertising tattoos that were "done while you wait." I wanna know about their drop off service.

Well, the real question is this:
Is it really the Ad that is dumb? Or is it really the people who fall for such nonsense that are dumb?
My bet is on the people - there are a lot of dumb folks around who believe just about any shit thrown at them.

I saw an aluminum mailbox for sale at Home Depot that was guaranteed to be rust-free.
Canvasback at October 24, 2015 9:01 PM
Canvasback,
That looks like an opening for a false advertising lawsuit. After all, it's the nice coating of aluminum oxide rust that protects the metal.

I saw a great comment that is appropos here. I might have seen it here. If so, feel free to speak up so I can attribute it.
Paraphrasing -
Saying I am "gluten free" is an incantation. It summons other tedious people.
The WolfMan at October 25, 2015 7:16 AM
My apologies. For "gluten free" read "gluten intolerant" or "I have a gluten allergy."
Haven't had enough coffee to be typing.

I just asked the wife and apparently some folks have a skin contact allergy to gluten. Turns out there's all kinds of cosmetics & such made for such folks.

I accidentally drank some of this. I dyed a little inside.

From the Mayo Clinic. They usually sort of know what they're talking about.

I'll bet that was a hair-raising experience!
