Methinks Jerry Brown is edging closer to throwing his hat in the ring for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

As a retired community college instructor, I would like to point out that it already was a felony to be in possession of a firearm on a community college, concealed or otherwise. I can't remember the section of the Ed. Code but I know it was there in the year 2001. When I was still teaching, I researched that issue very carefully. Jerry Brown is a clown and a phony.

Well, the bill accomplished one thing: it ensures that no law-abiding people will be armed on campus. The shooters will feel safer, and will have longer to kill people before anyone can intervene.

@Richard: So it's just political posturing? That makes it even more ridiculous.

I'd say "move to Texas", but we are already being overrun by fruitcakes from both coasts. They run away from the messes their ideas have created, but they bring the same stupid ideas with them. We have enough stupid ideas of our own, thanks.

For most of my professor friends, it is illegal to have a gun on campus.

I have a number of college prof friends I'm close with who are accomplished with guns. One practices regularly on a range and one was one of the first women given the M-16 rifle in the army. I wish they could be armed on campus, but it's apparently a firing offense. And I don't mean the shooting kind.

So they are made to be sitting ducks on campus, as are the soldiers gunned down on military bases, denuded of their firearms.

A point somebody made -- do we think Jerry Brown will visit a campus with unarmed bodyguards?

And I have to say, the out of shape, way older than me, campus security guys give me no confidence in their ability to manage any serious situation. If it takes them 10-15 minutes to get there, it's too late for some folk.

We should start a thread for alternative labels to "gun free zone."

I saw a good one, "crime empowerment zone."

THIS, a thousand times this. This is one of the things that just gets under my skin with those most vocal about gun control.

Yea, THEY want/need the protection; but, us little folks can get shot down any time and it doesn't matter. We are not allowed the same protection they want for themselves.

How about we make every anti-gun loud-mouth go live in public housing dominated by gang bangers for one month - without gun protection. Just to see if they are still willing to be anti-gun at the end of the month.

Read all about it on Wiki, and how clueless mayor Jane Byrne moved in to the projects, and only lasted three weeks, with round the clock police protection.

Jane Byrne moved into Cabrini-Green projects to prove she was committed to improving the security in public housing projects (i.e., the amount of armed security).

After the Mayor moved in, two policemen were stationed in the lobby and another outside the door. Two of her bodyguards, who are staying in another two-bedroom apartment adjacent to hers, were reported to be standing outside her door. At least four marked and two unmarked police cars patroled the area around the building.

I'm guessing those bodyguards were armed.

Three weeks after she moved in, the caught-on-film police brutality in breaking up an Easter protest against Byrne ended the publicity stunt.

The elites would love it if the right to be armed were confined to "security professionals" that only they can afford. The better to lord it over the middle class. "Step aside and let the Man come through!"
