Just shaken from the terrible events of Friday. I think of the French, who know how to live life, out with their friends, having wonderful food, good times, and then this.
People say or write or tweet "Je suis Paris," but it just seems so inadequate that I can't bring myself to do that.

Je suis Paris does seem very inadequate.
As more and more details are emerging what is striking to me about this attack is what many of us in NYC on 9-11 feared - that it was more than just one place under attack; it is in fact a series of attacks carried out at the same time.
I've just read on Fox, CNN, and BBC, that there were at least five places attacked at the same time - suicide bombers at the stadium, the concert, and a couple of restaurants and a bar.
So, it seems the Islamists (that's a word you won't be hearing from Obama or any other world leader any time soon) aren't able to carry out attacks on the same grand scale of 9-11; but, they are going for the dramatic in making a series of soft target attacks at the same time.
And, if any of these asshole leaders dare to continue their crap about "lone wolf" or "not affiliated with known terrorist groups" we need to impeach them asap; and get leaders who can exterminate the Islamists.

Good thing we pat down people wanting to ride on an airplane, say, from Atlanta to Charlotte. That obviously halts all Islamic terrorism in the USA.
They could use fingernail clippers, or 6 ounces of cola.

" I don’t want to speculate at this point in terms of who was responsible for this."
Well, I'm glad our Prez is not jumping to any conclusions. There are a lot of little old ladies flying around the country.

Great point, Radwaste. The same way they strode into that concert hall with AK-47s, they could stride into an airport and pick off the entire line of people waiting to get groped...a point I've been making for quite some time.
And amazing about the President. I think "Allahu Akbar!" as they gunned down unarmed cafe- and concert-goers would be the first clue.

It's really more like "Je suis Israeli" now.
I have a friend who moved there after marrying an Israeli woman. He has a few kids and Jerusalem is their home. I don't say this to him, but I am always worried about him.

It is a good thing that none of the 140 people in the theater were armed. They might have shot at a terrorist, missed, and accidentally killed an innocent. Leave the guns to the professionals.

I grieve for the people of Paris. And I pray that this will serve to awaken us to the dangers we face.
But I'm at loss to explain why so many people have chosen to redo their Facebook profile pictures in the colors of the French flag. I will support the people of France, but not the French government. France is not an ally of the U.S. and hasn't been one since the American Revolution. France is a definitive fair-weather friend, nothing more.

Some are suggesting that too much attention is being given this attack.

They can SHOW their solidarity without doing a damn thing in meat space

Well, yes, it might not do much; but, on the other hand, it was moving to see this:

Normally, for Army football home games the Black Knights charge the field following the Army Football flag and the US flag. Today they also carried the French Tri-color.
It was moving indeed. Perhaps, not as a show of support for the French government (which is, as you say, a fair-weather ally); but, as a show of support for the French people - innocent civilians as so many victims of terror everywhere are. And, like NYC on 9-11 the victims aren't just locals - they are from various places around the world, Chile, Spain, UK, US, Mexico, Portugal, Tunisia, just to name a few.
Some French cadets, no doubt doing a semester abroad at West Point, could be seen among the US cadets in the stadium:

(scroll down for pics, showing French cadets in fatigues with blue berets; France patch can be seen on their shoulders)
I can't even imagine what was/is going through their minds so far away as this terror unfolded in their country.

And really the thing that came to me was not "Je suis Paris" but "Je suis Jerusalem." (Those who comment here know that I have friends in Paris and love the place -- it's not about that. It's about what day to day life is like if you're Israeli.)
