The San Bernardino Slaughter
There are reports that murderer Sayed Farook, 30, "bolted from the holiday bash after arguing with another attendee, and then returned a short time later with the other two shooters."
That makes this horrible mass murder sound like some spur-of-the-moment thing.
But sorry, when you come right back with two people dressed in military gear, with serious weaponry, that's premeditated. It's not like you can pick this stuff up with a bag of Doritos at the 7-Eleven on the way.
"The two suspects were armed with AR-15 assault rifles, pistols, and many magazines of ammunition, an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms told KTLA."
I have friends down there -- at University of Redlands -- but I grew up in suburban Detroit and spent a bunch of years in New York City. I'm so dim about geography (beyond LA), I only realized (very late in the day) how close this shooting was to my friends, and only after seeing a news report about some kid from Redlands High School hiding under the bed with his mom.
My friends are okay, but I am just horrified by this slaughter and all the people who lost people they love -- people guilty only of showing up at their job.
There really aren't words to describe the kind of monsters who gun down unarmed people like this -- especially in a facility like this, serving people who are disabled. My sister is going back to school to work with disabled people -- because she wants to help, among others, elderly people with dementia to have the best possible quality of life. She sees humanity and value in people many people don't even see as people anymore. I think that's really something, and I'm guessing there were kind people with goals like hers working at this place.
Please post your thoughts on the attack -- and links to any more news about it that comes up throughout the day. (One link per comment, or your comment may go to spam.)

There really aren't words to describe the kind of monsters who gun down unarmed people like this
No words to describe them and I can't even wrap my head around it. As I've gotten older I like to think I've learned a little about human nature and how fallible we are, but this is beyond me. I can somewhat understand crimes of passion, but I can't fathom people that would do this.

I can manage to wrap my head around those, too, but this...

If they don't push that story now they can't declare it workplace violence and not terrorism like the Ft Hood shooter.

"... It's not like you can pick this stuff up with a bag of Doritos at the 7-Eleven on the way. "
Especially in California; gun laws are among the worst in the nation. That begs the question "what more gun control do you think would have prevented this?"

A possible scenario: One of the categories of being disabled is mental disability. It's a lot more common than most people realize. One of the primary skills in dealing with groups of mentally troubled persons is distinguishing and keeping apart the victims from the victimizers, the innocent from the bullies. Bullies very often try to claim some sort of victimhood status as a kind of 'moral license', using alleged sufferings to excuse their sadistic behaviors. Usually those who work with the mentally disabled have sufficient authority to safely call out the bullies on their B.S. (or more generously, lying self-deceptions.) When bullies are denied their claims of victimhood (either verbally or by being denied status as disabled) then if they perceive that they can get away with it, they often escalate. Farook had just had a baby and was probably looking for government support. Perhaps he had just been denied government support on a basis of not being disabled. (This scenario is probably wrong but hopefully has some useful elements helping understanding a bit further toward the truth.)
Richard Harper at December 3, 2015 4:44 AM
The first person didn't just "bolt" from the scene. He was there to make sure there were no armed guards and that the victims were most likely unarmed.
It's called, "casing the joint".

Richard, he was employed. He was at his workplace's holiday party.

This was well-planned.

They left the baby with the grandparents so they could go murder people -- I guess without the wife needing to stop and comfort their crying baby as they gunned down unarmed people at a party.

As always, the best coverage of this sort of event will be from the Daily Mail in England. They have two agendas; they're anti-gun and they despise Hillary Clinton with the white-hot heat of a thousand burning suns, but apart from that they provide names, mugshots, ethnic descriptions and other assorted items that the US media doesn't care to have us read about in a news story. They'll also flog a story far longer than the US media; the US media may collectively decide a story no longer needs coverage, but the Mail keeps on keeping on. A great source of news and coverage of any breaking event.
roadgeek at December 3, 2015 5:52 AM
If you have a CPL where you live, start carrying in public at every lawful opportunity.
You can't stop the first killing in events like this - but maybe, just maybe, you can reduce the number of subsequent killings. That's a start.
Striking resemblances to the Brievik killings in Norway - an extended attack on a purely-social event by a person who had carefully prepared in advance, but for no discernible 'reason'. We seem to expect that these sorts of mass killers will always attack targets which provide some sort of motive or 'reason' for being attacked - we forget that sometimes, killers are just killers, who do it because they like it and get something out of it that doesn't need an external 'reason' and which we will not be able to understand or explain.
History is rife with such people. We forget that the last couple of centuries are perhaps the only time in human experience where such events have been somewhat-less-frequent. Foxes will kill chickens until there are no chickens left, regardless of need or reason - it's the ultimate proof of power, capability and subordination. Some people are like that, too.
John Bernard Books said 'I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.' If we all lived by these rules, incidents like this would not happen. But the fact is that some people - a very few, thankfully - have figured out that they can satisfy their internal urges by living - otherwise. It has always been so, and always will be.

"bolted from the holiday bash after arguing with another attendee, and then returned a short time later with the other two shooters."
And then returned so heavily armed.
Yep, sounds just like that "spontaneous" riot in Benghazi.
Not PC; and I've said it before; we need to start burying the bodies of such terrorists with pigs blood. Guarantee that they will know we will do anything to keep them from their version of heaven.
charles at December 3, 2015 6:25 AM
I'll tell you what's disgusting. Within minutes of the start of the event, before there was any reliable info at all, leftist politicians and media were already tweeting that the shooters were white male conservatives. Years from now, this will be the narrative and lots of people will believe it despite what we know now. Fucking Stalinists.
Cousin Dave at December 3, 2015 6:54 AM
Two questions about this operation raise some interesting questions.
First, it appears they expected to escape and post their efforts on YouTube. The reason that they were cornered so quickly is because police received a tip as to the house. Which means somebody knew or suspected these individuals were a risk, and almost immediately reported them.
Turns out a neighbor was very suspicious of the shooters behavior, but was afraid of being accused of "profiling," so she said nothing.
Second, CAIR in a surprisingly short period of time, after the name of the individual leaked, managed to organize there news conference and bring in the brother in law. It also shows that CAIR very early on knew the leaked name was valid and that it would involve muslim with questionable background.
While the ruling classes are frantically trying to disconnect this from Islam, CAIR as already implicitly admitted connection or they would not have gone in to an atypical damage control mode so quickly.
Also, California needs to ban unlicensed bomb making. Since the police found a bomb factory in the shooters house.

Yes there is, the word is 'TERRORIST'.
Of course since the killers were not Right-wing, Tea-Party, NRA hate-mongers, they cannot be labeled as such in the Lamestream Media
