Let's Just Hope None Of The Syrian Refugees We're Letting In Want Us Dead
I want us to continue to be a country of immigrants, but when there's a real possibility that some or many of a people who want to come here want us dead, and when we have little way to figure that out...
...well, allowing them in seems a very bad prospect.
Oh, but we have vetting procedures, some will say.
Oh, do we?
From ABCNews, check out what Rhonda Schwartz, Brian Ross, Justin Fishel, and Lee Ferran report about mass-murdering Tashfeen Malik, who is said to have posted a pledge of allegiance to ISIS around the time she and her husband slaughtered 14 unarmed people and wounded many more:
Malik came to the U.S. on what is known as a "fiancé" visa, which allows an American fiancé to petition for his or her partner's temporary entry before marriage. For the visa application, the address she listed in her Pakistani hometown, ABC News discovered today, does not exist. Malik received a her Green Card this summer, U.S. officials said.
She's also reportedly linked to Pakistan's "most notorious radical cleric and mosque."
And then there's this about the terror wifey:
Hifza Batool tells The Associated Press on Saturday other relatives have said that Malik, who was her step-niece, used to wear Western clothes but began wearing the hijab head covering or the all-covering burqa donned by the most conservative Muslim women about three years ago."I recently heard it from relatives that she has become a religious person and she often tells people to live according to the teachings of Islam," said Batool, 35, a private school teacher who lives in Karor Lal Esam, about 450 kilometers (280 miles) southwest of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.
And what so many of us don't want to believe about Islam is the truth -- that the Quran is considered to be infallible and unquestionable (because it's said to be the word of Allah), and it calls for the conversion or death of "the infidel" -- which is probably every person reading here.
Lawyers for the family apparently asked that people not show this sicko's face out of "respect."
As I tweeted:
I stop "respecting" people's wishes after they gun down numerous unarmed people.

I know it is inappropriate, but sometimes I think we should fight the supernatural with the supernatural...
For example, Muslims are not supposed to be cremated. What if we cremated the bodies of terrorists, cremated a pig or other animal they have a supernatural aversion to, and mixed the ashes together? Then scattered them on a dump or in sewage?
Terribly unfair to the pig, of course, to kill it for something like this.
I know my comment is not appropriate, I am just venting. I don't really want to get into a war of body desecration...
NicoleK at December 5, 2015 3:04 AM
One thing though, these are the wishes of her family, who are still alive, and not proven to be terrorists themselves. It must be very painful for them.
I know, I know, what if they raised her to be that way and this is all their fault... but then, what if they didn't? Sometimes parents do everything right but shit happens and the kids turn out f*d up anyways... if this is the case the family is in a lot of pain.
NicoleK at December 5, 2015 3:06 AM
I watched the press conference held by the shooter's family lawyers and thought that moderate Muslims need to hire two (one/coast) "Baghdad Bob"s to better press their case of "It's not us."
If it's "normal" that a live-in Mother and visiting relatives not see a "bomb factory" or booby traps or the Mother's face then moderate Muslims are in for a rough ride. ("Man, that's a lot of pipe to rebuild a '67 Chevy carb!")
It's also not going to be easy to press "work place violence" as a trigger (oh the beard the beard) when it takes time and money to create a bomb factory, radio controlled IEDs, and accumulate thousands of rounds of ammo. (What did you do on your summer vacation?)

Depends on the house, there are certainly parts of my house visitors don't see, like our storage garret or attic.
NicoleK at December 5, 2015 4:27 AM
Agree NicoleK. Anyone can hide a lot of 'stuff' (just like kind souls hid Jews from Nazis).
Totally believe it's likely that family knew nothing. Mother? possible (age, cognitive abilities, culture).
This is a moderate Muslim's nightmare. Self-radicalized individual living in plain sight.
For the rest of us nothing changes. We are responsible for our own safety from a lot 'possibilities' and this is not as likely as a mugging/robbing/rape.

Don't confuse the fiance visa with the refugee visa program! The refugees are fleeing for their lives, and are very well-vetted. Obviously, the fiance visa vetting is sorely lacking, especially considering the part of the world she came from.
Pat at December 5, 2015 5:30 AM
Pat, I appreciate your sentiment but here's the thing: How do we really vet the refugees? Do we just guess? That's what our vetting will amount to.
You've surely dealt with government workers, government bureaucracy. You're really going to trust the people who have the TSA's repurposed mall workers acting as security to make sure no terrorists get into the country?
Amy Alkon at December 5, 2015 5:41 AM
I believe a lot of vetting happens in the UN camps already. Don't let in anyone who hasn't at least been through that process, and vet them once more before letting them in. Keep tabs for a time while they are here.
Remember, Syria is a socialist country

It wasn't "a lot of" enough to keep from letting in the guy who bombed the Stade de France (the stadium).

If it's any consolation to those who are so offended that Malik was photographed with her face showing, I will point out that since Malik no longer has a face, so there's no danger of her face being seen in public ever again.

I like it. It's what we did with the body of Osama, buried it at sea so there would be no grave. If you want that Old Skool simplicity that Islam so loves, just round up some wild hogs and feed them the bodies. If you have a strong stomach, film the feeding time and post copies to their friends. If you're feeling particularly vicious, soak copies of the Koran in sugar water, toss them in the pen.
kenmce at December 5, 2015 8:43 AM
NicoleK;
Yep, I've been saying that we should bury them with pigs' blood for a long time.
Two reasons:
First, it will guarantee that the terrorists will not get into their heaven.
Second, if any so-called "moderate" Muslims object, then we know that they are NOT moderate. If the moderates claim that the terrorists do NOT represent Islam; then they shouldn't object to what we do with the dead killers' bodies. If they do object then that means they somewhat sympathize with the killers.

By whom? From what databases? Confirmed how?
My understanding is that for a few hundred bucks, you can obtain Syrian identification documents. ISIS has hundreds of millions of dollars. And not all Syrian refugees are Syrian: more than a few are from Afghanistan or other places in central Asia that are looking for better opportunities.
Also, 65% or so of the refugees are military aged men. What could possibly go wrong?
We're supposed to bring in 10,000 refugees this year. If 1% of them are ISIS operatives, we'll have a very serious problem.
So...are you going to host a refugee family in your home? your neighborhood?
I have a very large box of cookies, 10,000 to be precise. 1% of them are laced with cyanide and will kill you dead if eat it.
Want a cookie?

I have to agree with Charles and NicoleK here. People who slaughter others for no damn reason other than in the name of their "religion" should be mocked and desecrated in ways that offend and deny their ideation. Those that are caught should be fed nothing but pork. Those that are killed should be dipped in pig blood and then burned. Use their beliefs against them. Perhaps it will be a disincentive to become a terrorist knowing that what will happen to you when caught or dead will prevent you from receiving the rewards you were killing for in the first place.
I apologize if I'm rambling and make no sense. I'm functioning on two hours of sleep and ran out of coffee two days ago. My brain is fried.

To tell us all to bend to the dictates of Islam? (Which is what slaughterers are going for, anyway, along with the quick-pass to salvation that Islam promises them for murdering infidels.)

IRA, from what I understand the 72% of refugees being men figure refers to the ones crossing by boat, and they are not just Syrian. Stats I've seen on Syrians reflect a more normal sex distribution.
Also, the US doesn't have to take a cross section, they can decide to not take any single men if they want.
One thought I had would be, what if some boarding schools offered to take some of the kids? Yes it would suck to separate families, but beats living in refugee camps... and takes care of the whole educating this lost generation thing.
If the US takes 10k people, I'd hope they would lean heavily in favor of families with small children, Yahzid and Christians and other minorities, gays, and the elderly.

Refugees "vetted" by employees at the UN or the got their jobs through affirmative action programs at the US state Department.
Golly, I feel so much better now - hell, let them all come in!
