Connecticut seems to have found itself in a bit of a pickle:
Whether GE stays or goes, voters should make a New Year's resolution: Next November, elect state legislators with the courage to extract real concessions from public-sector unions, which are draining state coffers in Connecticut and elsewhere.
Otherwise, the death spiral of increasing taxes and increasing flight will continue. With its heavy reliance upon mobile high earners, Connecticut is especially vulnerable, but other states are at risk too. Connecticut is the canary in the coal mine.
A completely demented Milo rewrites a Christmas carol for third wave feministas:
Therefore, the ultimate feminist Christmas song might be The Twelve Days of Christmas. We need to make some edits to the song, because the last thing we want our feminist Christmas carol to do is to leave these strong independent women shaking and crying by triggering them with words.

Somehow, the state of Illinois is showing some non-dementia:
During the summer of 2013, Natasha Felix decided to let her three sons—then ages 11, 9, and 5—play by themselves in a playground next to their apartment building in Chicago. A short while later, a preschool teacher saw the unchaperoned boys and decided to called the city’s Department of Children and Family Services hotline on their behalf. The state shared the teacher’s concern and gave Felix, a 27-year-old single mother, a child neglect citation. She was allowed to keep her children, but the charge resulted in the loss of her job and also prevented her from volunteering at her children’s school.
In news that is good for all parents, but especially so for Felix, the state of Illinois has decided to throw out the citation. A representative from the DCFS told the Chicago Tribune that the reversal of charges is the result of new leadership in their department and a commitment to reviewing the circumstances that got Felix accused of child neglect in the first place.
As I recall, Illinois elected a new governor in 2014.

Some people have more money than sense: Mark Zuckerberg's $100 million donation to Newark public schools has failed:
In 2010, Mark Zuckerberg donated $100 million to Newark, New Jersey's failing public-school system with the intention of turning around the schools in five years.
The goals Zuckerberg set out to achieve — to enact a number of reforms that would make Newark a model city for education reform — are widely seen as a failure, journalist Dale Russakoff told Business Insider.
So where exactly did that $100 million go if the turnaround was a failure?

The same place as all the taxpayer money in New Jersey. Pockets.
The teacher's union there has successfully required all teachers, not just members, to pay the union.
Effectively, the taxpayers' money goes right into the union bank accounts.
When we look back at the fall of America, we will be able to say it was because of special interests looking out for themselves first, second and always - not the public they were supposed to serve.
