When The Government Does The Background Checks On Immigrants
Turns out they missed San Bernardino murderer wife's zealotry -- openly posted on social media.
Matt Apuzzo, Michael S. Schmidt, and Julia Preston write in The New York Times:
WASHINGTON -- Tashfeen Malik, who with her husband carried out the massacre in San Bernardino, Calif., passed three background checks by American immigration officials as she moved to the United States from Pakistan. But none uncovered what Ms. Malik had made little effort to hide -- that she talked openly on social media about her views on violent jihad. She said she supported it. And she said she wanted to be a part of it.
American law enforcement officials said they recently discovered those old -- and previously unreported -- postings as they pieced together the lives of Ms. Malik and her husband, Syed Rizwan Farook, trying to understand how they pulled off the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil since Sept. 11, 2001.
Had the authorities found the posts years ago, they might have kept her out of the country. But immigration officials do not routinely review social media as part of their background checks, and there is a debate inside the Department of Homeland Security over whether it is even appropriate to do so.
How 'bout we just hope nobody wants to mass-murder any Americans? That's worked so well for us.
Any reasonably intelligent person, in trying to background check a person, would go on the Internet and run a few searches.
Astonishing -- yet not surprising -- that government workers don't even rise to the level of basic intelligence in doing their jobs.

Another example of Obama lying to himself and the American public.
How can a vetting process not include the social media tools used by the enemy for recruiting spies and combatants?
I mean really? I mean even pirates knew enough to ask "So you really support the Queen?".
Yet, I constantly see FB posts demanding love, peace, and understanding but these same people? do not ask "What is the vetting process?".

Bob, as President Obama has stated, he believes his "own bullshit." Big government advocates, including the President, base their decisions and policies on the false premise of super-efficient govt. Unfortunately, the reality is that govt is super inefficient, and so the programs inevitably don't work.
There is no evolutionary culling of inefficiency in govt. In the private sector, if you are inefficient you cease to exist. Perversely, in the public sector, if you are inefficient you grow, somewhat like cancer, until you kill the host.
The latter is precisely what is happening with our refugee and immigration policies.

I get that the usual bureaucratic inefficiencies means INS doesn't know about Facebook. But the city she claimed to be immigrating from doesn't exist. So . . . just what do they check in a background check?

Ironic given such social media posts are what gets american citizens put on no fly and other watch lists.

I vetted potential dates better than that. There is no excuse for that level of laziness. At least stop saying you are vetting immigrants when all you are doing is rubberstamping applications that cross your desk.

Give them a break, they are busy doing detailed background checks going back decades of any Tea Party person since the Democrats see as the real enemy.

Yeah, it seems to me that regardless of where you stand on immigration, we should all be able to agree not to let Jihadists who ANNOUNCE THEMSELVES in.
I wonder what she filled out on that little form in the airplane they give foreigners.
