It's Easier To "Not Care About Money" While Living In A $10.5 Million Apartment
And -- don't forget -- while having the connections and power of a daddy who used to be President and a mommy who was Secretary of State, among other things.
Yes, we're talking about Chelsea Clinton.
A New York Daily News headline:
Chelsea Clinton: I tried to care about money but couldn't
I feel for the girl. You?
Subhead of the Leslie Larson-reported story:
The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and ex-secretary of state Hillary Clinton explained in a recent interview why she left lucrative professions and opted for working with her family's philanthropic foundation. 'I was curious if I could care about (money) on some fundamental level, and I couldn't,' she said.
You know, I don't prioritize being wealthy enough to be in advertising or some other profession where I'd make a ton of it.
However, especially with the decline of newspapers and how people want to pay writers very little for their work (compared to what writing used to pay), I care about money. In fact, I worry about money all the time.
If I were independently wealthy, I'd do exactly what I'm doing now. I'd just do it without being so worried.
That isn't "not caring" about money. That's not needing to care.

Cut her off and dump her in the inner city with $20 bucks during winter and lets see if she can bring herself to care about money

Kanye West has a great lyric about money:
"Having money isn't everything but not having it is"
Ppen at January 16, 2016 9:09 AM
If I remember correctly, she now works for the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton foundation.
I'm sure she pulls 6 figures for that. And since she is who she is, she likely sits on the board of directors on one or more Wall Street firms. Those gigs also pay pretty well. And once you're a board of directors for one company, others maybe interested in having you sit on theirs as well.
Sweet gig, if you can get it.

Exactly, Ppen, on that Kanye West lyric. Money worries are really awful. I don't need a bunch of new stuff all the time; I just want to not worry about paying for a relatively modest lifestyle, including adequate healthcare (which I suddenly no longer have under "Affordable" care), and have money for when I'm an old bag so I won't be living on some corner.

I am no longer amazed at the hypocrisy of Clinton supporters. They really really believe.
The Clinton Foundation itself is an amazing funding machine for the Clintons. Sweet deal.
Chelsea is absolutely clueless like any other super-rich kid in China/Russia. Otherwise she would never open her mouth and would slink into oblivion.
Her "not caring" about money is so laughable.

Wow, how noble of her. Clueless idiot of the month.

How is it possible that anyone can take her seriously about anything?
Nelson at January 16, 2016 10:31 AM
Other than being the president's daughter, what has she accomplished that we should take her philosophical musings seriously - on politics, on life, on anything?

How is it possible that anyone can take her seriously about anything?
She's probably not an idiot, and then she's well-placed, so they have to listen to her.
This isn't to say they "take her seriously" -- but I think people can't just dismiss her. I also think she's probably in an arena where she is "among friendlies" all the time.

Poooor Chelsea's first job out of college was $100,000 plus bonus at McKinsey.
CatherineM at January 16, 2016 6:01 PM
This isn't possible. Everyone knows only Republicans have big money.
Radwaste at January 16, 2016 8:17 PM
Being in the emotional state of "not caring about money" is a luxury that only the wealthiest of the leisure class can afford to have.
As for her first job at McKinsey. Well, yes, that was a $100,000 per year, and she may have gotten the sign on bonus of about $20,000. That was the standard package for new Business Analysts at that time for that office. It should also be noted that Business Analysts at McKinsey mostly (if not all) have MBA or some other business degree/background. Chelsea had none of that business education/background - she had a BA in history.
So, it seems to me, that Chelsea clearly got that coveted position at McKinsey because of her connections to Daddy.
Further, she did NOT get the position she wanted. She wanted to be in the London office; but, they only offered her the New York location. Again, that most likely was because her father's connections would be useless in London - they were needed in the US.
Poor little rich girl - and I mean that somewhat sincerely. I would not want her life for all that money. Her parents must be just awful people to grown up under. Her husband has tried to use her father's connection to raise money for his hedge fund business. Clearly, most of the people around her are a bunch of "users."
Friends who are interested only in using me aren't friends for long; so, it must suck to be surrounded by users like that your whole life.
All that being said, I still think that "not caring about money" is a luxury; and, those who state so, clearly, have no idea how they come across as "removed from reality" and having no empathy for others who do need to count their pennies. So, that proves that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree; Chelsea is removed from reality and has no empathy for others - just like Billary.

@"She's probably not an idiot"
Probably not. Perhaps dishonest. Her and her mother seem to cultivate a sort of faux 'for the people' persona, but when you look at the kind of money they earn, I don't think one commands that kind of money without a deep love of money.
Lobster at January 17, 2016 4:45 AM
Isn't she some sort of failed, overpaid network person as well? I'm going with clueless or in denial until it's proven she's as corrupt as her mother.
MarkD at January 18, 2016 8:43 AM
Careful, you may be talking about a future U.S. Presidential candidate!
Jay R at January 18, 2016 11:41 AM
May? If Hillary wins election, Chelsea will be a member of her Cabinet (unpaid because of nepotism laws - ala RFK) and, thanks to that experience, a presidential candidate to succeed her.
