Growing your own food in Venezuela is tightly regulated. So is hoarding.
Tell me again why we have people who want to vote in socialism and state control.

It's easy to be a peace-loving people when you know you've got the US Marines to keep you safe.

@Conan,
My mother told how things were under Mao's regime. Pretty much like what is happening in Venezuela + much more. People would also sneak at night and try to get something (anything) to eat in the wilderness, even if it was just to fill your stomach.
The police would also get into your home and check if you were eating the "right" amount of food, that also meant that they could eat your food and complaint was meant with being pummeled into a bloddy mass and jail time. They also check if your rice was cooked the right way, and for "fun" they would pour lots of water and turn it into a soggy mess.

I recently read a biography of Mao. The author glossed over the deaths during the "Great Leap Forward" and the "Cultural Revolution" as if Mao bore no responsibility for the consequences of his plans and the fault for any problems was with over-enthusiastic implementers. Even the numbers were glossed over, "reports of deaths" and "may have been some deaths" instead of the more honest "millions killed."
This is why socialism is still attractive to the uneducated - poor US education and apologists saying Mao, Stalin, Hoenecker, Pol Pot, and Hugo Chavez weren't "real socialism."
And somehow Bernie Sanders will avoid the totalitarian trends of all socialists that preceded him and impose utopia (a word which was used ironically by Thomas More and which in its original Greek means "no place").

Speaking of socialists:
Racial segregation is back. That scourge of the 20th century, with its racialised drinking fountains and buses with whites-only seats, is staggering back to life, zombie-like. Only now its loudest cheerleaders are not old-fashioned racists with a Bible in one hand and lit torch in the other. No, it’s the right-on, small-l liberals, those who, in a serious abuse of the English language, call themselves “progressive”. Welcome to the era of PC segregation.

FYI, correct way to let me know about this is by emailing me. I'm working crazy hours on my next book, and don't always get to the comments until much later. Also, if you just post and post and it's not working, it's working to get your comment into my spam folder multiple times. I don't want that to happen! Not multiple times or at all. Please email me. I'm rescuing a bunch now from RPM and Darth now.

RPM, I think the Investopedia links may read as spam. I'm posting from within my software, so it can't hate me into the spam folder when I use that word. Probably my spam software doesn't like the I word.
Sounds like a waste of a year. Maybe she'll see feminism as it really is, but I doubt it.

And, to further illustrate how socialism works so much better than capitalism, Venezuela is out of food.
