Lack Of The Irish
What's with all you lazy Irish people, failing to get your panties in a bunch over "cultural appropriation"?

Begorrah and wasn't I helping some lost cattle find their way home from over in the next county? No time at all, at all for "cultural" appropriation!

I have one Irish great grandparent, so I'm entitled to the wearin' o' the green.
What percentage of ethnicity/nationality/religion/etc. do you suppose one has to be in order to not be a cultural appropriator?

Well, for one thing, "cultural appropriation" is when someone outside the culture or ethnic group is enjoying some aspect of your culture, and that doesn't leave a lot of people in this case. A lot more people have some Irish in them - or at least their grandmothers do, if yo0u know what I mean - and that doesn't leave many people to do any "cultural appropriation.

Jim, you may have a point. However, Irish is white, and therefore unimportant... unless you go back and look at some of the anti-Irish stuff from earlier in US history, in which case you will find that Irish weren't always considered white.

They're too drunk to notice?

Funny you should mention this. I was once given a hard time for wearing a claddagh as it is not obvious that I am of mixed races. I ended up telling the guy that I had more Irish ancestry than he of mostly Scandinavian ancestry did so pipe down. Still cracks me up!

What the 'ell?!
It was the Irish that "culturally appropriated" language from their English overlords and then had the nerve to "culturally appropriate" the potato from America's first peoples.
And while we at it, the Irish damn well better give Christianity back to those original Middle Easterners!
Oh, and lastly, The Jewish people should give that red-headed blogger we all read so much back to the original red-haired folks of Europe - the Irish!

Shannon, that sentiment was alive and kicking in the 1920swhen a senator from Texas, KKK member, inveighed against the polluting influence of all these Catholics.
Fun fact: there is a lot of Irish ancestry among African-Americans dating from the 1600s during the Cromwellian genocide, when a couple hundred thousand Irish were enslaved and trafficked into the Caribbean and American colonies. When you find African-Americans with Irish names, this is typically how they got them - ancestrally.

Jameson? Sure, if there's no Bushmill's or Tullamore Dew about!
