Hillary Clinton Pledges To Form Her Presidential Cabinet Around The Raggedy Ann And Andy Model
Dollwise, being a redhead is a bit like being a black girl -- or how it used to be -- which is to say that, when I was growing up, there were only two options for the wee ginger, Raggedy Ann and Raggedly Andy.
And yes, it's nice on some level to have a doll that has something in common with you -- like how Raggedy Ann had red twisted yarn for hair, just like mine.
However, we grow up -- or we should -- and then we change our standards. Like if we're running for the highest office in the land.
No, though, that does not include our Hillary.
Ashe Schow writes in the WashEx that she would try to make her hypothetical administration "look like America."
Clinton was asked by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow whether the former secretary of state would follow in Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's footsteps and pledge to make her Cabinet 50 percent women....But anyway, Clinton responded by saying: "Well, I am going to have a Cabinet that looks like America, and 50 percent of America is women, right?"
What she's announcing is, basically, no, I don't want the best person for the job; I want to play matchy-matchy!
Well...not entirely matchy-matchy.
I highly doubt that she plans equal representation for the 41 percent of Americans identify as Republican or Republican-leaning. Thirteen percent of Americans are black. Will Clinton make sure 13 percent of her Cabinet is black? One percent of Americans are American Indian or Alaska Native. Will Clinton make sure one percent of her Cabinet is American Indian or Native Alaskan? Is that even possible?
...Eight percent of Americans under 65 have a disability. Will Clinton make sure 8 percent of her Cabinet is disabled?
Twenty percent of Americans are Catholic. Will Clinton make sure 20 percent of her Cabinet is Catholic?
...I'm not sure where she's going to find a disabled transgender Native-American Buddhist, though.
Women are not acting like men's equals until they stop with the choices made from the woundy place and simply look for the best person for the job.

I believe Cabinet Officials are paid $199,700.
So okay, given that, my pronouns are she and them, my name is Netflixing from Wheelchair. Namaste.

My younger sister is going back to college -- got into one of the toughest, best programs in the country for what she wants to do, and I'm super-proud of her.
Anyway, because there's a lot of financial aid for minorities, and because she looks a bit Chinese/Mongol, I suggested she get a DNA test and so she could legitimately apply as a minority. Unfortunately, I don't think being Asian helps these days, since Asians tend outscore so many others in grades and testing for college admissions.
Amy Alkon at April 28, 2016 5:38 AM
It is a good thing she is already admitted Amy. A lot of schools are discriminating against asians for exactly that reason. So a fair percentage of them are identifying as white on the forms to increase their chances of getting in.
But back on topic, I can see why Hillary feels like she has to do this. Her main claim for why she should be elected is she is a woman. We will have to see who she actually appoints. After all a number of Obama's cabinet were tax cheats and had other issues. So the bar isn't all that high already.

Whenever a state passes new legislation that restricts access to abortions, my liberal friends say it's because women continue to be under-represented in the state government.
Never mind that approx. half of all women in that state are pro-life and that women can vote and helped put the current politicians in their jobs. It would make more sense for a liberal to want a like-minded man vs a random woman.
(Also, I can't can't stand a woman telling me that women are under-represented in ANY given field unless she herself is hiring in that field or pursuing a job in that field. Clinton at least has walked the walk, even if I disagree with her. Stay-at-home moms who complain that women are under-represented in STEM make me NUTS.)

I'd rather she picked a cabinet that thinks like America.

"I'm not sure where she's going to find a disabled transgender Native-American Buddhist, though." but all you need to do is self identify as one and you're ok. The labels are fluid if you have (Democrat) next to your name.

"I'm not sure where she's going to find a disabled transgender Native-American Buddhist, though."
Maybe up the writer's ass with the rest of the crap being passed off as useful insights?
Keep making fun of the all the "different" folk, keep losing elections. Brilliant plan, I suppose, if you're pretending to be a Republican while actually trying to get another Democrat into the White House.

@Miss Alkon: Anyway, because there's a lot of financial aid for minorities, and because she looks a bit Chinese/Mongol, I suggested she get a DNA test and so she could legitimately apply as a minority.
When my middle daughter was applying for colleges, a school up East accepted her and invited her to a special "women of color" weekend, since she'd ticked both Caucasian and Asian on her application. She went, and had a good time, but thought it was kind of odd.
On to the main topic: Does Ms. Clinton have a fat guy lined up yet?

Hillary's zeal to put women into high positions in her husband's cabinet is what got us the Zoe Baird confirmation fiasco and the unqualified Janet Reno as attorney general.
Be wary of such an ambition, very wary.
One that thinks would be enough.

Re:DNA test: I'll be hitting up an online DNA background check before my next degree. (MCAT in june!!!)

"Hillary's zeal to put women into high positions in her husband's cabinet is what got us the Zoe Baird confirmation fiasco and the unqualified Janet Reno as attorney general."
And then Reno was confirmed 99-0. Nobody cared to look at her record.

It's always fun to use these arguments in reverse. Another gay cabinet member? Sorry, got one, we're already over quota. You want to hire a woman as CEO? Weeelll, if she were black, we might be able to swing it, but we're a bit rich in pants suited management harridans at the moment. Could you get her to identify as male long enough to sneak her in on the transgender ticket?
What goes around comes around. Insist on quotas, and they'll turn into limits soon enough.
