Ashe Schow, who wrote the WashEx piece on how New York is not Hillary Clinton's "home state" -- though it is a convenient location from which to rake in bajillions from Wall Street:
With the Empire State primary just a couple of weeks away, political pundits are starting to wonder whether Clinton will be able to win the state where she maintains a residence....New York is not Clinton's "home state," it's just where she maintains an address. She wasn't born there, she didn't grow up there, and she never lived there until after she and her husband Bill left the White House. Even then, she only moved there because Bill had the connections to help her mount a senate campaign (which she won) that could lead to a presidential campaign.
....I get that people move, and that the term "home state" is somewhat subjective.
...It seems Clinton would have moved anywhere if she could have mounted a successful Senate bid there. New York provided her a simple path forward with help from her and her husband's friends.

No controlling legal authority.
No, that's not it. Laws are for little people, and I'm a bloody Clinton!
Any one of us doing that with that information would have been stripped of our clearances, subjected to a anal probing that leaves aliens aghast, and then prosecuted and jailed, with a big fat fine attached.
Don't even get me started on her suborning her underlings to spirit such information out of a SCIF to place it in unsecured email for Her Royal Highness. We'd be looking at a prison sentence measured in decades.

The point was that in 2000, Arkansas did not have an election for the Senate, which was something Hillary Clinton could have easily won there. Waiting until 2002 would have meant giving up her Senate seat in 2008 after only one term so she could run for President. They absolutely had to find someplace for her to run THAT year, and Senator Moynihan's announced retirement provided the perfect location and opportunity to do just that.

Back at the time, it was noted that Clinton could have chosen Illinois as the safe senate seat to run for.
As I recall it, an analyst then said: "The difference between Senator from New York and Senator from Illinois is the difference between chicken salad and chicken shit."

Ironically, if she had picked Illinois, she might very well have blocked the election of Barack Obama to the senate, and his subsequent rise to be the democratic presidential nominee, and the worst President in the history of the Republic.

@isab: I bet she spent years rehashing that exact thought. The past 8 years, in fact, I bet. Because Americans rarely vote 3 terms for the same party. And she knows it. Vagina or no (and no, not all women vote on vagina alone-I sure don't), she's facing an uphill battle on a pattern that's held pretty well since the mid-1800s. .

New York might not be her "home" state; but, they voted for her! Asshats!
