Black lives matter … but the lives of “men and white folks” do not?
That apparently is the message Black Lives Matter Toronto co-founder Yusra Khogali was trying to convey when she posted a controversial tweet on Feb. 9 that surfaced Tuesday morning.
Drink up, my friends! (but virus appreciation day?)
America has all sorts of obscure holidays, from Frozen Food Day (March 6) to Walk on Stilts Day (July 27) to Virus Appreciation Day (October 3). Most of these go unnoticed by all save the biggest frozen food lovers and virus appreciators among us. But there are some little-known holidays that deserve much more acclaim—like the anniversary of beer’s return to America.
On April 7, 1933, 14 years after Prohibition began, the sale of beer was once again legal in the U.S. Across the country, people crowded into taverns and restaurants to order a pint—or three—of the long-absent libation. So eager were Americans to wet their whistles again that many had begun packing the streets on the night of April 6, a date known as "New Beer’s Eve," to await the first deliveries. In Chicago, WGN Radio had a correspondent updating listeners as the first barrels made their way from the brewery to locations across the city, while in Baltimore, rain-soaked patrons cheered the delivery trucks as they made their rounds.
As the first barrels rolled in, years of pent-up mischief and merriment were released in a great sudsy flow.
Khogali is a community organizer, activist and spoken word poet who “who uses her art as a form of resistance to challenge various forms of Canadian state-sanctioned anti-blackness,” according to her Facebook page.
I will cheerfully pay for this woman's one-way flight to the African nation of her choice if she agrees to emigrate to that nation and renounce her Canadian citizenship.
Surely she'll be much happier in a majority black nation?

For our lovely blog hostess, an opportunity for you to score a cool $10K:
As a practicing Muslim, I know that my religion teaches peace. I am so certain of this fact that I will award anyone $10,000 if they can find me a verse in the Quran that says it’s ok to kill innocent people or to commit acts of terror. This is an open offer that will never expire.

There's good news and bad news (from WSJ):
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said the country’s workers will get Fridays off for the remainder of April and May in his latest attempt to save power amid a severe drought and growing energy crunch.
Mr. Maduro on Wednesday also asked people to conserve energy on the domestic front, going as far as to urge women not to blow-dry their hair. He said they look better anyway when they let their dry “in a natural manner.”

GOP votes to let airlines cram as many seats onto an airplane as they want.
Suck it, peasants!
Gog_Magog_Carpet_Reclaimers at April 7, 2016 2:33 PM
Is that really the government's role to tell airlines how to run their business by regulating seat size and passenger comfort.
Or is it up to the market to regulate - when passengers stop flying the airline with narrow seats in favor of the one with wider seats (even though it might cost more).

Feel the Bern! This is the society and economy that socialism brings. This is what Bernie wants for us.
This is what happens when you let government regulate everything, including the size of airline seats.

They seem to cause weather disruptions by heating the upper atmosphere, can they trigger earthquakes? What happens when they are pointed down, at us? "Is that really the government's role to tell airlines how to run their business by regulating seat size and passenger comfort."
Of course it is. Because the airlines could simply snap their fingers and instantly make the fuselages of all existing aircraft wider, if they really wanted to. The only reason they don't is because they are a bunch of big meanies.
(Sarcasm, in case it needs to be said. And truthfully, I'm not here to defend airlines -- after having spent a week trying to find someone at Delta who will agree to let me use some of my hundreds of thousands of Skymiles to upgrade some seats, I have to say that the airline business is one of the worst-run businesses generally in the U.S. today. But yeah, expecting the government to regulate seat width, with no adverse effects that would cause ticket prices to soar, is magical thinking.)

The airline business is so poorly run because it is filled with amateurs. People love to fly. It is an expensive hobby. So instead they get a job doing it. That kind of thinking goes all the way to the top of most airline companies. And if you are a decent businessman it is hard to compete with the guy who doesn't really care if he makes money just so long as he can keep his hobby afloat.
