Govt-Run Healthcare In UK: If You Like Your Cancer, You Can Keep Your Cancer!
NHS patients are missing out on new cancer treatments available in other countries due to the way the health care bureaucracy is run there, reports Henry Bodkin in the Telegraph UK [accompanied by annoying autoplay]:
NHS patients are missing out on new cancer treatments because health chiefs are failing to negotiate better prices for drugs, two leading cancer charities have warned.Today's report by Breast Cancer Now and Prostate Cancer UK, which reviewed drug availability in Britain compared to countries of similar wealth, found that Germany, France, Sweden, Australia and Canada all provide a better range of therapies.
It said the inability of the UK's drug commissioning bodies to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies was depriving patients of life-sustaining drugs, and called on Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to radically reform the system.
The report pointed out that the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the body that approves drugs for NHS use in England and Wales, has not approved a new breast cancer drug for routine use on the NHS in the last seven years.
Oh, and if you're kind of a goner, government-run health care isn't going to put the money into keeping you alive. Penny Sarchet writes at New Scientist:
The fund normally supports palliative treatment, enabling people with metastatic cancers - those that have spread from their original site - to access drugs that can add several months to their lives. From this April, only people who are already started on the treatments in question will receive them. Patients who had been hoping to begin treatment will no longer be able to do so.
The argument can be made, "Well, why should we spend gabillions of dollars keeping your ass on the planet for another two months?"
But of course, there is a way around the rationing of these government-run health care systems. Just be a wealthy and connected politician in one of these countries.

"From this April, only people who are already started on the treatments in question will receive them. Patients who had been hoping to begin treatment will no longer be able to do so."
Here we go. First notch in the ratchet.

Yeah, that actually isn't the worst thing the NHS does. Check out the Liverpool Care Protocol or now it is the Liverpool Care Pathway.... pathway to death if you are elderly. One person's story;

Just run that thru the socialism filter . . .
It said the inability of the UK's drug commissioning bodies to force pharmaceutical companies to give them free shit for no reason was depriving patients of life-sustaining drugs, and called on Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to steal more shit rather than expect people to pay for their own shit.

"Hundreds of NHS managers have amassed million-pound pension pots while presiding over the worst financial crisis in the history of the health service… As patients face crippling delays for treatment, A&E closures and overcrowded wards, bureaucrats have quietly been building up huge taxpayer-funded pensions. They will be handed tax-free six-figure lump sums on retirement, and annual payouts from the age of 60 of at least £55,000 – guaranteed for life."
