So listen, if you have any interest in science and academe and medicine, even if you're not statistically minded, you'll find much to learn in this Google guest lecture from 2014. It's an hour long. Ioannidis is the guy who brought the contemporary failures of reproducibility to popular awareness.
We get the sense that a lot patterns in Western Civ might be getting reconfigured in the years ahead... And science has suffered from presumptions just as have housing, farming and financial policy.
We need to be smart enough not to throw out the baby with the bath water.
"Ibn Saud’s clan, seizing on Abd al-Wahhab’s doctrine, now could do what they always did, which was raiding neighboring villages and robbing them of their possessions. Only now they were doing it not within the ambit of Arab tradition, but rather under the banner of jihad. Interesting article on the shared tradition of Wahhabism and ISIS. The Middle East is reaping what the Saud's sowed.
It contains a link to the second of Crooke's articles on ISIS at the end. Also worth a look.
