How To Feel Like You're On The Side Of What's Good And Right While Doing Fuck All To Change Anything
A black lawyer is disappointed at the turn the white SJW left has taken.
Nikki Johnson-Huston, Esq. writes at HuffPo:
I have spent my life as a Democrat which probably isn't that surprising considering that I am African-American. One of the things that always attracted me to the party were the ideals of equality, fighting for the little guy and our openness to differing opinions, but lately I have seen my party take a turn that makes me uncomfortable. Somewhere along the way we stopped fighting for the little guy and became the party of the smug, educated elites who look down on those with less education and deem them unable or unworthy of being able to make personal decisions for their own lives....My problem with Liberalism is that it's more concerned with policing people's language and thoughts without requiring them to do anything to fix the problem. White liberal college students speak of "safe spaces", "trigger words", "micro aggressions" and "white privilege" while not having to do anything or, more importantly, give up anything. They can't even have a conversation with someone who sees the world differently without resorting to calling someone a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, bigot and trying to have them banned from campus, or ruin them and their reputation. They say they feel black peoples' pain because they took a trip to Africa to help the disadvantaged, but are unwilling to go to a black neighborhood in the City in which they live. These same college students will espouse the joys of diversity, but will in the same breath assume you are only on campus because of affirmative action or that all black people grew up in poverty. My personal favorite is declaring with surprise how articulate a black classmate is despite the fact that we are attending the same institution of higher learning as they are.
...For so long, as a Black American, I have been told that the problem is Conservative Republicans. While I'll admit they may have done little to try to improve African-American lives, they also don't promise [missing words here] to every election season like the liberal elites. Instead we have given our loyalty and votes to Democrats, who paternalistically tell us they want to help us, but we have little to show for it since blacks started voting Democrat back in the 1960's. I have never lived in a city as an adult that was run by Conservatives or Republicans, but I live in the biggest poor city in the country, Philadelphia. A city, for decades, run by liberal insiders.

Not sure that's that wonderful an essay.
She seems to think all of this is due to problems of strictly white liberals, not problems with modern liberalism in general, or problems of identity politics in general.
In fact she seems to enjoy her identity politics.

jerry, jerry, jerry, sigh.
Asking her to presume that people have personal responsibility to themselves and to others is really unfair. I mean that would destroy her identity as she knows it.
Fighting cops over a "tax" is a noble heroic thing. Taking guns away from anyone other than a white male is the only correct gun control she can identity with. Having rules/laws and expecting Black young men to follow them is just an excuse to jail them en mass. (Missed the last roundup but maybe the next one will be televised.)
She would be a good spokesperson for Trump but she would self-destruct into tears if you pointed that out to her.

No. None of that is or ever was true. Yes, it is part of the sales job. But it doesn't take much looking to notice it is not and never was true.
The bit at the end about taking Hillary at her word and just trusting her is pretty hilarious too. After all, if you can't trust one of the people most famous for lying and deception who can you trust? Right?
Honestly her real complaint seems to be that her subgroup isn't dominant enough. Meh.

As Reynolds likes to say, another rube self-identifies. And of course, none of these big American cities, where the white racists are supposedly executing minorities by the tens of thousands per day, has seen a Republican or independent or unaffiliated third party (one not a captive of the Left) in over half a century.
And yeah, this is less of a true cry for equality than it is jockeying for a higher place on the totem pole.

Rube? that's generous. As a reminder, the Democrats had a Klansman in the Senate as recently as 2010.
Hillary called him a mentor.

I hold some pretty progressive views on a social level and libertarian views on the economy. My closest friends are libertarians, because my progressive credentials (MA thesis on dropout prevention for LGBTQ youth, sitting on the boards or steering committees of several human rights orgs, being a vocal ally nearly 20 years before marriage equality was on anybody's radar), mean nothing when the far left finds out I'm Jewish and refuse to disavow my support for Israel as a Jewish homeland.
They're missing out on the group of people in a position to make real change for Progressive causes by alienating Zionists. It's all or nothing with these people, while Libertarians and moderate Republicans are happy to agree to disagree and focus on what we can work on together.

Since progressive causes *always* rely on extracting money by force through the government, from the haves to give to the have nots, I'm not sure how you square progressive social views with libertarian economics, regardless of the Zionist issue.
Maybe the Progressives are just more honest about the methods required to fund their social goals.
