Former copyeditor weighing in: For most Internet copy, we're not worth the money. The article or ad is more or less ephemeral, and most readers don't care. If commenters point out a really embarrassing typo, the editor can fix it instantly. It's not memorialized in thousands of printed copies.
Copyeditor is a dying profession, just like librarian (my original dream job).
