As a white dude, minorities should listen to me tell them how to be better at being minorities.

As a Jew, Christians should listen to me tell them how to be better at being minorities.

As a feminist from the women's center, men should listen to me tell them how to be better at being men.

And by minorities, I meant Christians.... oh well.

The student newspaper's editorial board endorsed the new program yesterday, insisting it was "not a reeducation camp being administered by an oppressed group in the service of the feminization of American society."

The idea that they had to say that at all suggests that the program is exactly what they insist it's not.

There are already spaces where "men can contemplate their toxic masculinity": they're called bars, and the best discussion involve Scotch or Bourbon.

How many of the women at Duke and elsewhere are really majoring in a "Mrs." program while they are killing time partying.

Like any mind control cult, they are preying on the weak. Though some guys might show up just to parody the exercise.

I'm surprised this is openly coming from the Women's Center. In the past ten years or so, universities have gotten much sneakier about disguising the origins of their of their faux outreach to men. For instance, they usually try to arrange for other men to appear to drive these campaigns, and strategically purge their missives of feminist-associated rhetoric like "patriarchy".

So yeah, that's exactly what men today need... to have feminists define manhood for them. Not.

And y'know, I seldom go to a park, or to a birthday party, or to a baseball game, thinking "What if this event is really a re-education camp?" It is not necessary for the park management, or the host of the party, or the baseball team to insist that their event is not a re-education camp. Very plainly, it isn't, and the thought that it might be one would not cross my mind. So, if someone has to insist, a priori, that their event isn't a re-education camp, well... Shakespeare and doth protest and all that.

The project, led by a goal of “creat[ing] a space of brotherhood fellowship dedicated to interrogating male privilege and patriarchy,” is both admirable and necessary. We wholly endorse its mission and hope that along with other initiatives, it will move our campus towards a better and more nuanced understanding of the mix of identities that populate Duke. ~ Duke Chronicle

So, the underlying assumption is that there is actually such a thing as male privilege and patriarchy. Therein lies the problem. When your baseline assumptions are flawed, so is your conclusion.

Men died on the Titanic following the "women and children first" rule.

Men died in World Wars, fighting to free Europe and Asia from tyrannical invaders. Women and men died in bombings and attacks on civilian targets.

Men populate, in significantly greater numbers, the most dangerous jobs in the world, often dying doing these jobs for the benefit of society and/or trying to provide for their families. Those workers who died erecting the Brooklyn Bridge and the Hoover Dam were not women, they were privileged men.

The only privilege any of these idiots should be concerned about is the privilege of being a Duke student, a highly-ranked private college that isn't cheap to anyone who cannot sink a basketball or throw a football.

Why single this out as influential?

Fred Reed makes the wonderful point that public expectations are driven by popular media.

Today, we think it is just fine that professional athletes have multiple children out of wedlock, that the Dukes of Hazzard is virulently racist because there's a Confederate flag on the General Lee, that the family should look like the one in "Modern Family", that drugs are an excellent recreation, that the ~13% of the public that is black are everywhere and that Wonder Woman should be bisexual.

In the process, public schizophrenia has been increased by an order of magnitude beyond what it had been when the worst you could do is ask someone where the "Ark" went.

Technically the closest term would be xenosexual, as humans are a separate species entierly.
