Hans Rosling passed away yesterday. Maybe you've never heard of him. He was a Swede, a medical doctor, statistician and a professor of global health at Institute Karolinska in Stockholm, the place where they decide who gets Nobel prizes.
His niche was finding, collating and interpreting statistics about the world, then presenting them in a form understandable and comprehensible to the lay observer, allowing people to grasp the true state of the world and its populations.
Nothing like him in the world. Except for his son Ola, who will carry on his work through the foundation he set up.

The presence of Andre Carson on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Emerging Threats Subcommittee has always been extremely controversial. But this latest breach involving Democrats on this committee and on other key national security committees raises serious questions about the scale and magnitude of the real problem caused by a compromised congress.
While Carson and other HPSCI Democrats had been demanding security clearance for their staffers, three Pakistani Muslims working for them appear to have compromised security to an unknown degree.
Why were the Awan brothers, one of whom had a criminal record, even allowed to work in such a sensitive position? How did the personnel suspected in this case pass background checks? And was any classified information compromised as a result of these alleged breaches?

Gog, how could you not tag that one with "FloridaMan"?
Have a smart tv? might want to check the terms of service for the software.
The popular TV maker Vizio began in 2014 to incorporate software into its TV sets to collect information about our viewing habits on a second-by-second basis. Then, working with a data analytics company, they were able to associate that data with very detailed and specific personal information of the viewers. Yes, Vizio sold you a TV set and turned around and spied on you as a thank you for your business!
It's at least possible that the reason people might not have heard of him is that he was a cute guy in a Ted talk.
We was apparently a good teacher, and a competent aggregator of diverse data. I'm sure he was a nice man, and the colored bubbles in the famous Ted show were handsomely (if typically) animated in the manner of contemporary presentation software.
But the information which made his presentation so profoundly fulfilling to an audience of smug, social-isolated and intellectually-silo'd elites, was, essentially, the best possible news that could ever be give to a human being: Our species is growing wealthier & safer at a fantastic rate.
He was cute. I work in showbiz, where that's not an entirely trivial contingency in an enterprise.
But he wasn't the source of the miracles he described.
We shouldn't shoot the messengers, and neither should we exalt them.
On Minimum rage:
I especially like that somebody would credit Bernie Sanders for supporting that woman. He knows the least about earning of any human alive.
Then...
“For example, Apple did $39.5 billion in business last year, and only has 97,000 employees. So they made about $407,000 dollars per employee, which gives you a lot of latitude to increase wages, if you want to do so.
In the retail segment, if you take all 22 retailers on the Fortune 500 and add them together, they did about $34 billion in business last year, and … made about $6,300 dollars per employee.
Now if you give a minimum wage employee an increase to $12 dollars an hour, rather than making $6,300 dollars an hour on employees, you lose about $1,100. If you give them a raise to $15 dollars, you lose about $6,000 dollars per employee.” - Andy Puzder

File this away with "Where's The Beef?" and other outdated blather.
I do not understand the introduction of unaccountable, balaclava'd henchmen to American law enforcement.
Sheezus.
These are twelve, maybe nine-year-old boys living out their fantasies of Mexican wrestling heroism.
Also... Shoulda been Carly.

Pope demands government build a bridge to help Muslims move to Italy?
That's what he means by "bridges not walls", I suppose.

I used to like this pope, but now I think he's just another giant leftoid. This outreach to Muslims will not end well.
In the meantime, the following scary story is brought to you by rabid liberals. Thanks, rabid liberals!
