In today’s Leonard v. Texas, Justice Clarence Thomas sharply criticizes civil forfeiture laws. The one-justice opinion discusses the Supreme Court’s refusing to hear the case (a result Thomas agrees with, for procedural reasons mentioned in the last paragraph); but Thomas is sending a signal, I think, that at least one justice — and maybe more — will be sympathetic to such arguments in future cases
The FBI raided the home of a Maryland man last month after he allegedly impersonated an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent while also attempting to enforce criminal laws, Montgomery County District Court documents state.
According to those court documents, Itai Ozderman, 35, impersonated an ICE officer throughout Falls Church, Virginia, on more than one occasion. During those alleged fantasy world skits, police say the five-foot-seven, 160 pound phony federal agent sported a bulletproof vest with an ICE placard and also touted a Baltimore County Police Department badge.
At least they're open minded enough to accept the answers they weren't expecting.
Salvatore says he and Guadalupe began the project assuming that the gender inversion [Hillary as a man, Trump as woman] would confirm what they’d each suspected watching the real-life debates: that Trump’s aggression—his tendency to interrupt and attack—would never be tolerated in a woman, and that Clinton’s competence and preparedness would seem even more convincing coming from a man.
...
Many were shocked to find that they couldn’t seem to find in Jonathan Gordon what they had admired in Hillary Clinton—or that Brenda King’s clever tactics seemed to shine in moments where they’d remembered Donald Trump flailing or lashing out. For those Clinton voters trying to make sense of the loss, it was by turns bewildering and instructive, raising as many questions about gender performance and effects of sexism as it answered.
Call Nemesis a goddess. But it was also simply an empirical observation about collective and predictable human behavior: Excess invites unexpected correction.
Something like hubris incurring Nemesis is now following the frenzied progressive effort to nullify the Trump presidency.
But, explain how my family is supposed to reconcile the reality that the woman who stripped my uncle of his life is now deemed a hero by many of my fellow Americans. What justification is there for Rasmea Odeh, a woman who killed two people (with the intention of killing more!) to lead a peaceful fight for human rights? In the documentary, “Women in Struggle”, Odeh and her accomplice, Ayesha, talk in detail about their gruesome acts. Ayesha names Odeh as the ringleader. Explain to me how explosives found at Odeh’s home matching those used in the bombings sits with your conscience.
I base my North Korea prediction [China clamping down on the NORKS] on the assumption that by now President Trump has burrowed so far into the brains of the Chinese leadership that he’s already got functional control, Master Persuader style. They just don’t realize it.
Let's hope so, Scott. Otherwise, I'm afraid that this business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

Two Klan members stomped an Asian man to death and robbed him of $1.14. I know, it's already in all the major media outlets, right?
Oh. Two black men did the killing and it's on the back page of a San Francisco local rag.
Are you dumb enough to be my man?

No hate crime. Little media. No outrage.
