When I was young and pretty, people who said The CIA is watching me through my TV set! were mocked as insane.
Also in those years of yore, we took Sagan at his word when he said that abject slavery had been essentially extinguished across the globe, but that's not actually so.

Fun!--
To paraphrase an author he admires, Andre Gide, Posner writes not to defend himself but to be accused.
Also (Hi Amy!)--
Critics find Posner exasperating, because often he simply doesn't take the trouble to answer their careful refutations.
First, we have the wee question of why the police didn’t operate more independently of United. Their job is to enforce airport rules, not act as agents of airline overreach. Second, a red flag is that Richard Zuley, an interegator at Guantanamo Bay as well as a 30 year member of the Chicago Police Department, had been homicide officer involved with a series of wrongful convictions. A 2015 Guardian story not discussed at length his aggressive techniques, which included allegations of torture. He had then left the CPD and was working as a security officer at the Chicago Department of Aviation. Is this just an isolated example or have other Chicago cops with dodgy records find a second career at the Chicago airport?
And...
United’s real problem isn’t PR though, it’s outsourcing. An astonishing amount of United Airlines flying is conducted by outsourced employees who work for contractor shell companies. The whole idea is cost savings/profits through labor arbitrage and the typical race to the bottom dynamic. Regional airline employees have coined their own term for it- “The Whipsaw”.
Have we established that this traveler was misidentified as a sexual miscreant, or has that presumption been withdrawn?
A lie (or an error) can get halfway around the world before the truth has its pants on. Note that Drezner has issued a full-throated, sincere and featureless apology to the Attorney General of the United States... See the full text on the Washington Post.
But Jeff Sessions is a public servant who deserves tremendous criticism indeed. So does United Airlines.
We gotta get this shit straight.

"Compelling yet secret truth: No actress named Hepburn was ever that much fun to look at."
Always black & white. Always in mundane clothes, mundanely tailoring. Usually alone in these underdressed, B&W photos, but still smirking. Unremarkable figure, joylessly short hair.
Someone once described John Tesh and Yanni as "Music for people who don't like music."
Audrey Hepburn is a fascination for people who've never spent time with pretty girls.

Many colleges have their own police forces. At 4,000 parishioners the church is on the scale of a small town all on it's own. Until they do something they shouldn't I don't see much of an issue.
