Bull Pulpit: The Wall Street Bull's Company Gets Company
In case you don't know the story, an artist put out a big bull sculpture by Wall Street. Another artist added a defiant girl in front of the bull. Then the first artist came back and put a peeing pug by the girl.)
I think it's hilarious. It's exactly art. Art piling on art piling on art. (Wall Street bull...then defiant girl...then pug lifting leg by girl.) I can't wait to see what's next.
"'That's an a-hole move. You call this art?' said one woman, who kicked the dog statue as she walked by" https://t.co/Z3X55Z26gx

Note: Women crying foul over this because the dog is peeing on a girl are not my equals -- or men's.
I judge women these days by whether they have a sense of humor about things or go immediately pantybunched.

I forget who it was but someone suggested sculpting a flea to go on the dog. I'm all for it.
(It was probably @iowahawkblog.)

FYI: The pissing pug was put up by a 3rd artist, not the original artist of the bull.
Next up, statue of man pointing gun. And the viewer can decide if gun is pointed at pug, girl, bull, Wall Street, or grievance du jour.

The entire "defiant girl" statue doesn't even make sense. The bull symbolizes the energy and vigor of the stock market. The little girl is opposing this? Against capitalism? Ah, yes, feminists against capitalism, how progressive. Feminists who want good jobs and lots of benefits paid with taxes provided by businesses...

Does New York City not have any laws? It seems like statues are being erected there willy-nilly.

All that's missing to make them go nuclear is a statue of a smiling anthropomorphic frog doing Rodin's The Thinker pose.

Why do so many women (especially so called feminists) seem to constantly search for ways to be offended?
(Cue chants of sexist, sexism, misogyny for above comment)

How about Kermit drinking his cup of tea? But that's none of my business.
Meanwhile, they think that a womyn-only screening of Wonder Woman is totally fine...

I despise that girl statue. It's the perfect symbol for modern feminism: it makes zero sense.
The dog is kind of funny, though I'm with the original bull sculptor that this girl was an unauthorized addition to his work and should be removed.

The tragedy of the bronze commons... I expect the area to be cluttered with dozens of statues a few months from now. It'll be a free speech zone for sculptors!

The little girl is clever advertising for an investment fund.

The bull is a work of art and should stand alone.
The girl is a piece of crap (installed by an asset management company) that I could live with as a very temporary installation, but it's high time it should go. Its alleged message makes no sense on either a literal or metaphorical level.
The pug is freaking hilarious, and if the stupid girl stays, I say pug should stay, too.
I should note -- the artist who created the bull devoted 2 years and $350,000 to the effort. He put it up in 1989 to inspire the city after the market crash. He still owns both the statue and the copyright to it. (NYC did not pay him for it.) He could move it, if he liked, though he'd rather it stay where it is (a sentiment pretty universally shared by New Yorkers).
I think he has every right to ask that Fearless Girl be moved (or, alternatively, to move his own statue, which would really be a loss for NYC). The little girl's alleged message depends entirely on the bull -- and moreover requires the viewer to change the bull's symbolism from a positive one (a triumphant market roaring back) to a negative one (sexist male domination). Moreover, the bull artist's intended meaning is entirely lost because the bull can now only be seen in the context of the defiant bull.
Fearless Girl is bullshit. No pun intended.
The pug, however, is awesome. I laughed my ass off when I saw the pictures. (Unfortunately, I never got to see pug in person.)
