The thing about earthquakes is that moment of time between when you feel the shakes and when you realize it's an earthquake.

When I was living in the Bay Area and the Napa quake hit, I was in bed asleep. I thought the shaking was from the cats fighting on the bed. I sat up to admonish them, but when I sat up the bed was empty. I thought they had jumped off when I started to sit up, so I looked on the floor for them. Then, I realized the bed was still shaking. Oh, earthquake.

We had out-of-state visitors at the time who were freaked out by the earthquake and vowed to never set foot in California again.

To be honest, there is no size earthquake that does not make me scream like a little girl.

My wife, a California native, is also freaked out by earthquakes.
