Sexual abuse among the nation’s thousands of evangelical denominations may never come into focus the way it has in the Catholic Church. But more and more cases will inevitably come to light—revelation by revelation, report by report, headline after headline—even as conservative churches cling to their happy-family images, no matter who gets hurt. Boz Tchividjian, the founder of GRACE, says his fellow Protestants should reject the impulse to view the scandal the way many Catholics did for years: as a matter of a few bad apples being belatedly punished. “Protestants are going to have to accept the fact that we have many more similarities than differences with our Catholic brothers and sisters when it comes to how we have failed to protect and serve God’s children,” he says...

And Cosh jokes about the Shkreli jury selection, saying they'll never find twelve unbiased people to empanel.
Thus, giving additional ammunition (no pun intended) to anti-gun zealots who want guns removed from society because idiots might get them.
They thought the stunt would work because he'd shot a thicker book earlier and the bullet did not go through it. So, they used a thinner book when his life depended on it? Um....
I've had training with weapons, and that violated every rule from a basic firearms class, several from just plain common sense, and not a few more from basic physics.
Of course this is from the state that elected Al Franken to the US Senate, Jesse Ventura to the statehouse, and was the only state to go for Walter Mondale in 1984. Must be something in the water. Relax, Florida, you're not the only state deserving of a separate Fark tag.

Police stated that they are unable to release any names at this point, but confirmed that the arrested included some "household names" in the entertainment industry.
Okee fine. No sane person would defend the guys who pursue our least-defended people for such exploitation.
Nonetheless, whenever we see these stories, it feels like the entrapment of the perps is nearly as perverse as the monsters being corralled.
Sure, ya gotta swim with the sharks in order to... etc.
I guess my resentment is with the psychiatrists, and with all the other industrial functionaries who pretend these forces are mechanistic and predictable —or at least detectable— through logic.
If their expertise is so grand and reliable, why can't these professionals anticipate the misbehavior? And if they can't anticipate it, why can't the at least de-fang the monsters after they've been captured? Doesn't all their titled professional eminence compel them to do something good for society?
These arrests, of whoever is involved, are worth making.
But if we know so much about human interiors, why can't we make things better for someone?

Is this a Joe McCarthy commies-in-the-woodshed kind of site?

According to the study cited, a women in a relationship is a lot more likely to have sex with a stranger than a single women - ie 4% versus 0%. 4 isn't a large number, but compared to 0 it's a huge change.
"Twenty years later, Hald and Høgh-Olesen (2010) largely replicated these findings in Denmark, with 59 percent of single men and 0 percent of single women agreeing to a stranger's proposition, “Would you go to bed with me?” Interestingly, they also asked participants who were already in relationships, finding 18 percent of men and 4 percent of women currently in a relationship responded positively to the request."

This is a strange day with these news surfacing:
The Tobyhanna, Penn. man was charged this Wednesday with 64 counts of child porn possession and one count of criminally using a computer to download the illicit materials. Goldberg told police that he believed the pictures were not illegal if they didn’t depict sexual acts, but the police didn’t buy his excuse and issued the charges against him.
Conan: Sorry, dude, no Darwin. The young lady who put the Desert Eagle .50 round through the book into the boyfriend already has one child by him, and is pregnant with the second. They disqualified themselves for the Darwin, as one witty Twitterer said, by not shooting the sperm donor before he reproduced.
