Optics. Do you have experts in PR, NFL?? if not, maybe you should look into getting some. Emphasis mine.
The left has chosen to make kneeling for the national anthem now a referendum on Trump himself. A larger problem for them, and the NFL in general, is they picked this fight on a day meant to honor Gold Star mothers.
The left has chosen to make kneeling for the national anthem now a referendum on Trump himself.
Trump excels at making a gesture or comment that gets his opponents to fall all over themselves with a batshit crazy over-the-top response.
This is a useful skill in winner-take-all politics. One wonders, however, how useful this skill is in governing the country; and how destructive.
The Democrats have to remember that they're going into the 2018 midterms having already alienated the working class. The flap over kneeling for the national anthem costs Trump nothing, but can cost the Dems any inroads they've made with the working class up to this point. He was always two steps ahead of Hillary in the campaign and, if this is a planned provocation, it looks like he's two steps ahead of the Democrats going into the 2018 midterms.
If Trump is using his ability to provoke an over-the-top response to expose his opponents as ridiculous partisans and, by doing so, build support for his policies, fine. However, if he's using it to one-up his opponents or anyone who's irked him, it's less a governing ploy than a three-year-old's temper tantrum; and more destructive to national governance than partisanship itself was.

Gog, I tell people who want to get restraining orders against abusive spouses: "A restraining order is a piece of paper, and pieces of paper do not stop bullets".

"pieces of paper do not stop bullets".
Sad but true.
I'm sort of expecting the anti-gun crowd to somehow spin this story of a gay man using his husband's gun to murder his neighbor for being Lebanese into some sort of anti-Trump silliness because, um, red state anti-Muslim racist (although the victims were Christian).
The killer ran the victim's mother down with his car and the judge let him out to murder the son after repeated run-ins with no jail time. WTF. Can't we send these incompetent jurists to prison for this crap?

No-win whiteness! This is crafty way to get something for nothing - unearned power over others - while enjoying (SJW-racist) shaming of them.

If you have the right politics, you really can do nothing wrong.

No-win whiteness!
Heh. From the linkie, quoting the video “You’re still white!” she yells after him. “You’re inherently racist! It’s in your blood!”
Just you wait until we white guys say fuck it and start living down to your expectations. You won't like that. You won't like that one bit.

Restraining orders are as useless as the incompetent judges who hand them out.
