I Described My Halloween Costume As "A Sobriety Test"
But it's also a big "fuck you" to all the adult SJW bullies telling little girls they can't be Moana unless they have skin color that matches hers.
Little girls should be whomever their imagination tells them to be. There's plenty of time for life to squash their spirit. No need for adults with an agenda to get a head start.
I wore this with my usual everyday outfit, which is eveningwear as daywear, plus fancy cowboy boots. I wore the low-heeled variety, because the party was way, way, way, up in Topanga Canyon, and you never know when you'll have to walk a while -- if you hit a deer in a place where there's no cell service.
So rest of my outfit: evening wear skirt -- a green sparkly full-length "mermaid" skirt from Etsy; a little black ruffled shrug I got off eBay; and two black fabric boas twisted together -- because one boa is never enough when you like to live all the way.

If a white person wants to dress up as MLK because he admires him, or Obama for the same reason, or as a black panther because he is a revolutionary idiot, why can't they? A fraternity had a party themed after Kanye West (to make fun of him sure)--we can't make fun of black musicians?
This all is just sickening.

A few years ago, I saw a little Asian girl dressed up as Doc Mcstuffins for Halloween. My first thought was that it was great that she didn't associate the character with a specific race. However, I also recognized that there may be some people who would have told her father she shouldn't dress like Doc Mcstuffins because she wasn't black.

Related: Why would it be "racist" for Kim Kardashian to dress up as a recording star who was black (and is now dead) for Halloween?

Our Hostess has shown us the mermaid dress before (albeit sparingly), and it is... effective!

Party on!
Glorious attention to detail: Henry's stocky build is historically accurate, as is his smirk, as is Cat's heedless demeanor.
