And she has plenty of fellow travelers tweeting support for her anti-NRA position in this.
She's desperate to stay in the public eye. I think she still wants to run in 2020, despite what will be an advanced age. Whether the Democratic Party will accept that remains to be seen.

Gog, never let a crisis go to waste. But, in case one is interested, you can find out how well suppressors...suppress sound.
And the anti-gun crowd ramps up to go on the warpath. The Las Vegas shooting is the NRA's fault. And MarketWatch has lost all pretense of being primarily a financial news site.

"Breaking - Las Vegas shooting: At least 50 dead, more than 400 injured in massacre:"
This event is an example of the easiest attack on Americans, for a variety of reasons. The same type of individual could go to the airport and stop air traffic across most of America just by shooting tailfins.
But I am surprised that no one could engage this guy from outside the hotel with a police rifle.
I guess this is another thing nobody thought about beforehand.
Just like this: You cannot prevent someone from a first offense.
It will be used again to demand that the non-criminal do something, in the false hope that it will influence the criminal.

I have sworn a pledge today that I don't particularly care about the shooter's ideology. No mainstream political philosophy in America today advocates mass murder. Whatever he believed in, if he had any coherent ideology at all (and I have no idea yet, because I haven't looked at the news since early this morning), it bears no relationship to what most Americans believe. More likely, given the usual history of such things, his beliefs were a grab bag of conspiracy theories, paranoias, and various sorts of mental illnesses. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
People will be asking "how can we learn from this?" I'm not sure there is anything to learn.

Gog, she sounds nice.
Meanwhile, the shooter's brother is flummoxed. He claims his brother wasn't a gun guy, and also, where did he get automatic weapon(s)?
But I am surprised that no one could engage this guy from outside the hotel with a police rifle.
Back of the envelope calculations suggest that the 32nd floor is approximately 360 feet off the ground. Probably just easier to wait for the 911 calls from his near neighbors to flood in, and pin point him that way. Less collateral damage as well.
At least he's consistent. Of course, he wants to disarm the law abiding and leave us to the tender mercies of the criminals.
“As after #Orlando, I will NOT be joining my colleagues in a moment of silence on the House Floor that just becomes an excuse for inaction,” Moulton tweeted Monday.

"Easier." "Less collateral damage."
What was the body count?
Pinpoint? The target venue said they could see flashes - and Mandalay Bay windows don't open, do they. Pick the OPEN one with gunfire coming out of it and break the shooter's fantasy of godhood by making him worry about being hurt before he's done.
Of course this is a shoulda/woulda/coulda, but the most effective deterrent to shooters is to shoot back.

That was a 950+ ft shot. The average 9mm pistol's effective range in the hands of an expert shooter is roughly 100 yards (300 feet).
I doubt anyone at the concert had a weapon with the reach to effectively shoot back at a guy on the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel.

And you woild have to be very lucky at that.
Generally taking out a sniper requires a counter sniper. Or you gotta bust the door down behind him, and take him out from the inside.
Only thing that would have stopped this guy sooner would have been a security guard or a CCW permit holder who knew where the shooting was coming from AND had enough heft to break down the door. Not an easy task.
For a crazy guy, this was a well planned spree killing. He had been there for days. Probably brought the long guns up in a golf bag.....

The other delay seems to be that the initial 911 calls were about an active shooter at the fairgrounds, not a sniper at the Mandalay Bay. At least the ones they played on TV were about the fairgrounds. It probably took a while to redeploy the assets to take out the shooter in the building across the street.
He was a great guy. Hadnt seen him in years, but he spent his life saving lives and gave his life saving one. And has apparently become the face of this. I found out at 5pm at work. Id heard news snippets in and out of rooms all day, but wasnt actually watching.
Thank you all. Many feel his loss far, far more acutely than I. I just know the injustice of it. He is a genuine loss to society as a whole, as are many of course.
